Caught this guy, while fishing the sand quarry last night.  We have never seen a Bluegill this big. He was the size of a small frying pan. Just goes to show you, theres no telling, what lurkes below the surface, when fishing small bodies of water.  He was just about 2 lbs.   Happy Fishing!!

"blinky" had 3 eyes :-) The record for bluegill is 2lb 8 oz. So that is a big one

I think he is being devowered by my neighbor, this evening. I dont think I would eat a Bluegill, but I guess they are good pan fried, dipped in flour, egg, and cornmeal. He put up quite a fight too. We thought it was another Bass, or Pike. I would have thrown him back, like I do every fish, but the neighbor wanted some fish to eat.

Wow Karen, that thing is huge! I've never eaten a bluegill, either. They were just fun to catch off the end of a dock when I was a kid.

If you like something good to eat, try frog legs. I'm not sure if it's legal or not, you'd have to look it up but bullfrogs are easy to catch with a fishing pole and a fly hook. Just hold out the pole and fly over a patch of lily pads and watch the frogs all compete to get the fly. They'll jump right out of the water and grab the hook.
