Attempted burglary reported on Washington Avenue

By Billie Owens

A caller on Washington Avenue in the city just reported that a black male attempted to enter the house via a kitchen screen door. He fled, leaving the door open, and got on a dark-colored bike and was heading toward Dellinger Avenue. He is described as black male, mid-30s, wearing dark clothes and a baseball cap. Police are responding.

That was my house at 20 Washington Avenue and my wife and I were at home at the time. Both our vehicles were in the driveway. God Bless our Batavia Police Department because they responded within minutes and apprehended the man almost immediately.
It should be noted the man is on Parole. My Border collie Patsy did her job though and barked to warn us scaring him off. I didn’t see him, my wife Cindy did though as he did a quick getaway on a bicycle.
We just returned from the Police Department after filing charges against the man. This was a brazen daytime home invasion by a convicted felon on Parole.
My opponent in the November 4th Election cut the Police Force while on Council and rather than spend the $50,000.00 on greater Police presence and another Patrolman; John Canale and Jason Molino spent that money on pizza parties and ice cream socials.

While you aren't representing my ward Richard. I support your campaign nonetheless. I think it's time to make these two (Molino and Canale) back into voiceless citizens and get some new blood into the city govt.

Yourself and Paul seem just the people to do it...

they took down the flag. they hauled off the monuments. I don't believe you can use the word black to describe an alleged criminal. plain and simple someone will be offended by this. the new country just won't allow it.

I’m sorry to hear that Lori; crime is a serious problem throughout the City and especially in sections of our Ward. Many crimes aren’t reported out of fear of reprisal or people simply don’t want to get involved. When I was circulating petitions; I walked up on a porch that was occupied by six people. One young man sitting there vaulted over the railing and took off running.

I received one signature from the group and when I asked “What’s up with that guy?” I was told he thought I was going to serve a warrant on him. I was also approached for cigarettes or money.
