Motorcyclist down, has shoulder injury at Route 5 and Boyce Road

By Billie Owens

A motorcyclist "dumped his bike and has a shoulder injury" and he's sitting roadside at Route 5 and Boyce Road in Pembroke. East Pembroke Fire Department and Mercy medics are responding. The roadway is clear.

UPDATE 2:20 p.m.: He has a lot of road rash on his shoulder. There were no other vehicles involved.

UPDATE 2:49 p.m.: This accident involved a bicycle, not a motorcycle.

I see so many riders not wearing any protective gear, dressed in shorts, flipflops and tee shirts. I'm all for doing whatever you want to do and I've been known not to wear my jacket on hot days but it's so easy to lose it in a bit of gravel. Road rash is just like a burn..your skin is GONE! I've seen some awful road rash and just thinking about it always reminds me to put on the jacket, boots and long pants. I hope he's back up and riding again soon.

I agree 100% Doug!! A very good customer of mine had a bad accident my first year in the business. Seeing the road rash to me was worse than the broken bones. I NEVER jump on a bike without a jacket, boots and jeans. It's just not worth the risk
