Leaving Dollar General, driver's car catches fire

By Howard B. Owens

Robert Griffin said he was leaving the Dollar General about 3:45 p.m. when he heard a pop and then smoke started billowing out from under the hood of his car.

City Fire responded and quickly doused the small fire.

I keep a small fire extinguisher in my vehicle for times when this occurs to me or someone else..not a bad Idea for less than 20 bucks..MOUNTAIN DEW works too, but not as effective..just a word of wisdom..big trucks are mandated to keep one on hand!!
But lets not make this another NY law that could Impose a fine on the struggling American..

I told this guy this story yesterday: When I was in college, I had a 1969 VW Wagon. One day returning to campus with two cases of cola my mother had given me, I heard a pop and the engine stopped running. I pulled over, opened up the back, pulled the coke cases off the engine compartment and open it up. There's a tiny little flame coming out of a hole where a valve had popped through. First thing I did was run up the hill to a phone booth. By the the time the fire department got there, the entire back of the car was fully engulfed. My mom said later, "why didn't you just use the soda to put out the fire?" Doh!
