Mystery boom on Southside

By Howard B. Owens

We were awoken at approximately 8:25 a.m. by a large boom that rattled our windows. A neighbor heard it, too.

A neighbor called dispatch.

A Batavia Police officer checked out the areas around Maple and Evans, including checking all the transformers in the area.

A few weeks ago, there was a report of a large boom in Attica and it turned out to be an earthquake. I've checked the USGS site and so far no reports of any seismic activity.

Did you hear or feel anything?

If kids today are anything like they were when I was growing up I would suspect that someone lit a stick of dynamite and ran like hell.

Yeah Chris, glycerin and nitric acid. Good luck mixing it in the correct proportions without it becoming unstable and placing you in the "Darwin Awards" list.

Anyway, maybe the boom was a freak lighting bolt. They can happen in perfectly clear weather.

Doug, obviously you're having trouble comprehending my comment. Or you're failing miserably at being a smartass. Regardless, let me help you.

"I'm not a child, nor do I have the desire. However, I do know how to make nitroglycerin."

Do you need that sentence broken down for you further to understand?

Chris, obviously you're a sensitive guy. You know how to make nitroglycerin..whoopdie freakig doo. You do, however, sound like a child.

My comment wasn't an insult to you in any way so which part of what I said bothered you so much? I was simply making an observation about making it, not about your professed knowledge or lack of.

If you need me to break this down, I will.

Doug, your assumptions are misinformed and off base. I'm not a sensitive guy, nor do I sound like a child. Your post was both rude and an insult, even if it didn't bother me.

I corrected the assumptions in your original post and offered to break the sentence down to alleviate any confusion. You shot right back with another rude response, yet you're accusing me of sounding like a child.

I have a splitting headache and my nose is running like Niagara Falls. I have no more patience for this. By all means, don't stop. It's your reputation.

My post wasn't rude or an insult. How you took it that way is still a mystery to me. I think it's just how your brain works. For some reason my comment about nitroglycerin and its instability was taken as an insult to you. I've got nothing else. You can run with this from here on. I'm done with the thread..c'ya.
