Police Beat: Man accused of stealing winning lottery tickets from father's car

By Howard B. Owens

Daniel Nathan Bernard, 20, of 6083 Route 5, Stafford, is charged with petty larceny. Bernard is accused of stealing $60 in winning scratch-off lottery tickets from his father's locked car, which was parked at his father's house.

Eileen Barbara Ferrando, 37, of 53 W. Main St., Corfu, was picked up on a bench warrant issued in the City of Batavia for alleged unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle. Ferrando was turned over to the Batavia Police Department.

Scott Webb, 19, of 12 Grote St., Buffalo, is charged with petty larceny. Grote is accused of stealing game prizes from a game stand at Darien Lake Theme Park.

A 17-year-old from Corfu is accused of reckless driving and endangering the welfare of a child.  The youth allegedly drove at a high rate of speed down Chapel Street in Elba, losing control and coming within feet of striking a child riding a bicycle. The youth was issued an appearance ticket.

"coming within feet of striking a child"
This is such a horrible phrase to use. One is always within feet of striking a child.

And once again the blotter gets sadder, instead of stealing from a grandson, we now have theft from a father.

Last week's item was about Nathan D. Bernard, 20, of 6084 Main Road. I double checked the PR for today's incident at the name and address match what I wrote in today's item. Last week's incident involved Bernard trying to break into the house that was also listed as his residence. As for the differences in address from last week to this, it's possible that I accidentally typed 4 instead of 3, but it would be difficult to retrieve that particular PR at this time. As for the variation in names, assuming it is the same person, I can feel pretty confident I typed it as it was on last week's press release.

Tyler, good memory! I also thought the name sounded familiar (from last week:

Nathan D. Bernard, 20, of 6084 Main Road, Stafford, is charged with attempted criminal trespass. A Sheriff's deputy reported that he was dispatched to 6084 Main Road, Stafford for a possible burglary in progress where a person was trying to gain access to the building through a basement window. The deputy allegedly found Bernard with something in his hand and he was attempting to gain entry through a backdoor. Bernard is held on $300 bail.)

Sounds like little Natey is having some problems as of late, hopefully he can get his act together before it spins further out of control.

Not only did he come "within feet of hitting a child" after he slammed on his brakes he proceeded to chase the child up the street speeding BACKWARDS while the child was going to his house. The driver whipped around in someone's driveway and continued flying up the road past the child's house. A little while later I observed the same truck going back down the street driving way too fast.
What a jerk, trying to scare a kid on a bike. I am surprised no one got hurt because of the idiot driving.
