Today's Poll: Do you think the state's union workers should give back raises this year?

By Howard B. Owens
C. M. Barons

A bank CEO can return a bonus. An hourly employee- making less than 35K needs good reason to sacrifice a 4% pay increase that he/she earned. The good reason should have come from union leadership: sacrifice now and save your job next round.

That didn't happen. ...And when the axe falls, the heads roll; it won't be the Robutrad schemers, pension padding scammers or any such public rip-offs who bleed. As always it will be the lowest-of-the-low who work hardest for least who are cut-loose. Our neighbors.

NO I thik half of the programs should be eliminated and employees should be laid off until the state budget is balanced.

Even if the unions gave back the 4%, there is no guarantee there will not be layoffs, none.

What we do know is that the Governor will not cut his own staff, or cut the pay raises he gave them.

He is also not cutting Commissioners, Assistant Commissioners, Deputy Assistant Commissioner, Directors and the like. They are all safe (political patronage).
