Travel Plans

By Howard B. Owens

Starting today, and for the next 11 days, Billie and I will mostly be away from Batavia.

Today, I drive down to Bloomsburg University in Pennsylvania, where I'll do a local television interview and then speak tonight to the Keystone State Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists.

On Saturday, Billie and I fly to California and will be gone until Nov. 30.

But don't worry -- you'll still have news coverage (and deals of the day!) while we're gone.

I'll have my laptop with me, of course, while I travel, and will stay on top of things as best  I can. When the police and Sheriff's Office sends out press releases, I can still do "Police Beat," for example. There will be other items that will come in that I don't need to be in Batavia to post. Also, if necessary, I can do phone interviews for any coverage that needs to be handled that way.

Dan Fischer at WBTA will also post any breaking news and other items of interest to the site.

We've also asked our correspondents to be sure and post an item or two each.

I'm sure there will be reader submissions, and of course we always encourage those.

Probably the key bit of coverage at The Batavian provides that will be missing while were gone is the scanner coverage -- won't be able to hear the scanner in California.

Of course, we still encourage news tips -- if they're something you think we should try to get more information on, use the news tips button on the upper right or e-mail me. We'll do our best to follow up as quickly as possible.

As for Deals of the Day, there should be posts on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday (a nice big one of Friday in honor of "Black Friday"). The key thing to note is that we won't be able to mail out gift certificates to winners until Dec. 1.

I couldn't help but think of the governor of Caleefornia, saying "I'll be back!"

Have a safe trip Howard and Billie, and enjoy Thanksgiving.

Howard & Billie, have a nice trip and Thanksgiving, hope you enjoy it!

I'll see what I can do with regard to monitoring scanner feeds as I know of one for Genesee County Fire/EMS online (which seems to cover GCSO/BPD as well). Also if photos are needed I may be able to help, depending on where and when.

Thans for the well wishes, and thanks Bill ... my mobile number is at the bottom of the home page, too, if I'm really needed quickly.

Enjoy the break away from us. Happy Thanksgiving to you and Billie along with any family you will be visiting. We the folks that have to work Black Friday look forward to the deals we still may be able to get without dealing with the crowds.

Good luck on the presentation. I know it is one I'd like to hear/see.
Have a grand holiday, too.
If there are any erasers thrown or other misbehavior, I'm pointing the finger on Mark P. :) We innocents wouldn't do anything wrong.

We are boarding our beloved Pachuco at Beds-N-Bones Pet Lodge in Batavia, where we have selected a number of treats to make this very big boy happy for a week.

These include: pig ears, fun Kong toy with peanut butter, extra-special "potty-on-grass" time, 15-minute walks, play time in yard, vanilla ice cream and full grooming. Heated floors and super-clean facilities.

Don'tcha know he'll have a good time! Beds-N-Bones will see to it!

My old kennel used to take my dog into their home to play with their kids, and keep him there for very long periods of time. He was a "barker" and I'm not sure if that was the reason that they welcomed him into their home, but he was so happy & healthy when I came home, it made me feel terrific. He had special food that I provided (he hated dog food) and medication for seizures that he needed every day. They have retired the business since & my "baby" passed away in 2000 at 18 yrs old, but this local business stepped up and gave us what we needed. That's what the world needs to move back to - helping others especially when providing a service, and making it "important". So glad Pach is in a good place...he needs a rest too from all the "hoopla" of his "new found internet fame"!
