Weather: Winter weather advisory issued for Friday night

By Howard B. Owens

Freezing rain and icy roads are being predicted for Genesee County by the National Weather Service.

The winter weather advisory goes into effect at 6 p.m.

While the weather service describes the amount of freezing rain as "spotty" and accumulation as only "trace," it does warn of slick roads and walkways.

These weathermen are getting to be nothing less than PANIC MONGERS - so everybody gets all upset and will stay home and watch the weather (and their commercials). All this does is KILL BUSINESS for EVERYTHING except the grocery stores. "Winter Weather Advisory" means there's going to be winter weather - BIG DEAL. It's DECEMBER.

HAHA that's their job. At the other end of the spectrum you have what happened in the south towns last week when people ignored the weatherman and they got trapped on the thruway. Yeah, it was a combination of weather and error by the thruway authority but still, people should not have been on the road that night. The forecast was 16" to 24" which is exactly what happened.

I agree 100%, though, it's December in western NY so winter weather JUST MIGHT happen! People in this area probably tend to take weather reports with a grain of salt. I don't think the winter weather advisory kept people away from the stores.
