By Howard B. Owens

Law Street, City of Batavia, is closed until 2 p.m. today for resurfacing.

The road is open now. A street that really needs it is Summit between Main St. and North St.. It's like a roller coaster through there.

My street was heaving real bad in front of my house during the winter a few years ago. So much so we had to be careful to not bottom out our cars on the whoop-de-doos. All it took to get it fixed was sending a single informative email to the City Public Works and Maintenance Departments during the height of the problem (mid February-ish) asking that it be fixed. The street was sealed up before the next winter with a thin coat of asphalt similar to what was done on River St and our whoop-de-doos disappeared.

My experiences with the City Public Works and Maintenance Departments have been mostly positive when they have been informed about legitimate problems. It's never a bad thing to at least ask about concerns.
