Vans Warped Tour?
Vans Warped??
Is that a band? What kind of music do they play? I've been out of the 'concert scene' for a while now, but might just have to check them out (if they ever get to FL, that is).
What the heck. If I don't like the music, I guess I could just plug my ears, take a deep breath and hold.
"Hold... Hold... Just a little bit more.... O.K., your eyes are going back in your head, so you might wanna exhale - NOW!! Before you pass out!!"

"GREAT MUSIC, DUDE!!"

Please disregard my last comment. I just found out 'Vans' is only a sponsor of the 'Warped Tour".
Then, I went to youtube to see what they (attempted???) to sing/play
I guess I won't be rushing off to the concert any time soon. After 66 years, I have too much respect for my eardrums, than to PAY good money to have them assaulted.
Guess I'll just have to sit in the parking lot of Winn-Dixie, and listen to the piped-in music they play for the shoppers - and Hold.. Hold.. Just a little bit more...

If you shop at the Winn-Dixie treat yourself to some Southern livermush, which is just what it sounds like. I think you'll find it where they have lunchmeat and bacon. Comes in a square log and you slice it thin and fry it lightly on both side in some fatback or grease and serve it up hot with your eggs and grits in the morning. Yum yum!

Thanks Billie, but
(a) You'll find NO grits on my platter - I may live here, but I am not FROM here, and,
(b) I'm fresh out of fatback - Although, I'm guessing that, in this great land of obesity, I could easily find some (as in, "Baby Got Fatback".
:>)

Uh, I guess that would be a NO.
I'm not big on liver. What I mean by that is, I have eaten it. It's OK. I know that, if I was really hungry and liver was the only thing available, I could eat it. But, I'd never order it. Same thing goes for veal. To me, those two foods (and others not mentioned) fall into the 'It's OK, but, no thank you!' category.

I was forced to eat liver growing up ~ YUCK. No matter how much ketchup I drowned it in, it was still awful. Grits? Never had them...

Billie ~ blackberry jam HAS to have seeds, not the same without them. I plan on going picking on Sat.

Ed....do you have too much time on your hands? LOL (I can see that half smirk!)

Hi, Mardell.
My parents loved liver & onions, but I always managed to find something else to eat - PB&J, some small leftover in the fridge, heels off an old hunting boot, whatever.

The 10 years prior to moving to FL, I lived with my eldest sister, Pat. And I don't know how many times I heard her talk about not liking liver (something about the 'texture'). As I'd never had it, I knew not of what she meant. One day I was in Tyler's, and my friend ordered it. So I tasted some of his. As I said, it was OK (but, just OK). I'd never order it unless it was the only thing available.

Oh, as a personal aside, I came across an old comment of yours. You were commenting about Randy Starr and his family. Randy is married my to cousin, Cindy (they're great people). And you also mentioned John LaPoint. (from River Rd.?). My senior year at PCS, my parents bought the very last house on River Rd. (down around the corner). I never met Mr. LaPoint, but knew him by sight. My dad knew him, though.

As for too much time on my hands, you must be getting me mixed up with Styx (NOW you can see the smirk).

Hi Ed,
Tyler's...that's a blast from the past.

What year did you graduate? (If you care to divulge!) I guess I didn't realize you were a golden gopher...(now you can see ME smirk!)

Mardell: That would've been '66. Sometimes I forget the exact year, but then I realize I can always go to wikipedia and see when PCS outlawed whale-oil lamps. THANKS, wiki...
Gopher - So that's what that was!
Yeah, Tyler's. I was pretty good friends with Peter and Jimmy, the brothers that owned it. I had met them back in the early 70's. I lived in Roch at the time, and they ran the Orange Monkey (sorry, before your time). Nice guys, and very hard workers.

I DO remember the Orange Monkey (1980, maybe?) I did go to the Riverboat quite a few times (was only 16.)

Whale-oil lamps? New to me!

Not to be all PC, but it's good that whale oil lamps were outlawed and whaling ought to be all over the world (hear that Japan?). We need whale oil about like we needed Dodo bird eggs or Saber tooth tiger trinkets. Just sayin'...

Mardell, I WAS just kidding about the lamps - heck, by the time I got to PCS, they had not only electricity, but, running water AND 'inside' toilets!

Billie, you are correct, of course.
With this exception, from wikipedia, on 'whale oil' - "The Inuit of North America are granted special whaling rights (justified as being integral to their culture), and they still use whale oil as a food and as lamp oil."

Also, I saw a documentary a couple months ago. If I remember correctly, it was stated that whale oil was still being used on our aircraft carriers, as a lubricant for the catapults. But, I'm not sure when the documentary was made, so it could've been prior to the ban. How about it, squids? Anyone know?

The Inuits of North America -- I forgot about them. Yes, it's absolutely justifiable in their case. It would be interesting to find out if the documentary's claim of whale oil use on aircraft carriers' catapults is true and why, if true, this is so. Isn't there anything else -- what about WD-40?

Well see now, I've never heard of whale oil lamps...just saying....might have been not paying attention in history class. I've learned something new today ~ no, make that two things. My 10 yr. old taught me how to use the function key on the laptop. D'oh!
Every time I learn something new though, something else ends up being forgotten. There's only so much room in there to store information. (Smile.)

Mardell, I'm gonna go out on a limb here and guess you've seen SOME form of oil (kerosene) lamps - you know, the kind grandma used when the electric went out.

The only difference is in the type of oil used - kerosene works ok, but stinks (of course, nowadays, they have 'designer' oils) - but even olive oil will work.

Yeah, I used to try to remember the stuff that I forgot - That's a losing battle!
