Firefighters extricate cat from can

By Howard B. Owens

A city resident turned to the Fire Department this morning for help rescuing a cat whose curiosity, or insatiable appetite, got the better of him and perhaps cost him one of his nine lives. The cat stuck his head in a can and couldn't get unstuck. Engine 15 responded at 7:58 a.m. and firefighters used handheld cutting tools to peel the can open and extricate the feline.

The cat is fine.

Oh my Godlessness, I'm back. I love the fine PR for our firefighting saviors that getting cats out of trees brings but is it really a good use of a hero's time to use a pair of tin snips that the cat owners already had before they shoved that poor kittens head in a can? I'm a member and I can edit but I won't because of solidarity with others who won't knuckle under to the regime of Mean Howard the Publisher, he's mean, he's green and he's trying stuff out.. I'm with you Scott Ogle, fight for right to Party and then unparty when you change your mind. Unvirgins revirginize all of the time why should we be different?

And then again you have to remember, it's not like it was dog or a kid's hand or something important. I'm not a cat person, they are too much like lions and I don't like lions except for little baby lions.

It seems an awful waste to send a truck and crew to remove trash from a cats head. How about keep the cat out of the trash and take the cat to the firehall if you really can't figure it out yourself.

A waste to send a truck over? The few dollars in fuel it cost to send a truck over is going to make or break city of batavia? Had there been a more serious emergency going on at that time I am sure they would have had this call wait. A fire department's main purpose is to preserve life and property weather it be human or animal its still a life and still someones pet. Not to mention a perfect time for training for the next time it maybe a kids hand stuck.
