McMurray says trade war with Canada hurts WNY

By Howard B. Owens

Press release:

In the wake of the trade tariffs instituted by the Trump administration, Nate McMurray is touring businesses across Western New York, talking to business owners to understand how the changing economic climate is affecting them.

McMurray met with the owners of Catalpa Farms today in Canandaigua who grow soy, which they primarily export to China.

The price of soy has tumbled from a high of $10.70 at the start of this year's growing season to $9.60 today as a result of the 25 percent tariff instituted on soybean imports, in reaction to Trump's tariffs.

The farmers said that the price drop is "killing them" and that there is a likelihood that China will begin to import soy from Argentina due to the uncompetitive price of our export. This is unacceptable.

There are no other words for the tariffs except economic warfare. McMurray believes that this is posturing at the expense of the American people.

The administration's careless trade war endangers the welfare of the American people and of the people of New York's 27th district, whose livelihoods are among the industries affected.

Trump's increasingly combative rhetoric with Canada, one of our closest allies, as well as his erratic behavior at the G7 summit casts into doubt the administration's commitment to the economic well-being of our citizens.

"Our region is interdependent on Canada," McMurray said of New York's 27th Congressional District, "turning our backs on our Canadian neighbors is unthinkable.

"Even just the petty words coming out of the White House are enough to seriously threaten jobs and incomes here at home. Actions have consequences. It's not fair to our working men and women and it has to stop."

Scott Chismar

McMurray is right. Trump displays erratic behavior at the G7 summit. While there he picks a fight with our closest allies, and then decides to leave early for his meeting with North Korea's murderous Dictator.

I wonder how long it will take for responsible Republicans to stand up and say "Enough is Enough".

Thanks Dave. And not sure how Rich views my post as bashing.

1) Did Our President pick battle with our allies at The G7 summit?
2) Did Our President leave the summit early after picking a battle with our allies?
3) Is Our President going to move forward with his plans to meet with a murderous
Dictator?
4) Should responsible people stand up and speak out when their President demonstrates
erratic behavior, regardless of their Party?

Hey Rich, tell us that if Obama or Clinton did any of the above that you would tell someone that "Enough is Enough". Your post indicates you may just be part of the problem. Perhaps you may want to think what drove you to post your response, and maybe you can work to become part of the solution.

Hey Scott, you asked for some responsible Republican to say “enough is enough,” regarding your response to Nate McMurry's press release. I stepped forward and did. Nate McMurry is a Democrat running in the 27th District against Chris Collins.
We all know you don’t like Chris Collin’s and criticize-bash him every chance you can. You also don’t like President Trump and do the same.
You said President Trump was exhibiting erratic behavior because you don't like his negotiating style and I disagree, and now somehow I’m part of the problem?
Bill Clinton was and is a sexual predator, and Bill Clinton's appeasement policies to a murderous regime (North Korea) are a failure, that President Trump is now trying to solve.
Obama was and is a Narcissist. Obama gave over one billion to Iran to fund their nuclear weapons program. Iran is the number one sponsor of terror in the world. They now have an intercontinental ballistic missile. What did we get out of that erratic decision?

Perhaps you should read the above link regarding your last paragraph in Post 4?

Rich, you seem to be a bit confused. I have not ever met Mr. McMurry nor do I have any ties with him. It is true that I think Congressman Collins is a crook and only cares about his rich buddies. And you are correct, I do not care for President Trump nor the vast majority of his policies. As far as me bashing Collins and Trump "every chance I can", you have mistaken me with someone else.

I did use the word "erratic" as it was lifted right off of the press release as published.

My plea was for the members of the Republican Party to step up to the plate and call out Our President when he is wrong. Sadly, your response just proves that there are those that are not willing to set politics aside for the good of the country.

Clinton has been out of office for 20 years and you go to the gutter and call him a sexual predator. Isn't it a tad ironic that you are defending the man that brags and boasts about grabbing females by their private parts? And of course there is the $130,000 in hush money he paid to Stormy Daniels that is not even disputed. Bill Clinton bothers you because he is a "sexual predator" yet Trump is your man. How ironic.

Trump is fixing the North Korea situation with name calling tactics like "Little Rocket Man"? How Presidential. Let's face it, this guy is an embarassment on the world's stage and folks like yourself are being played as fools and do not even realize it.

I would also suggest that you try to gain some new sources of information. The bigthink show is a mess. Here is proof:

Narcissist as defined: A personality disorder which involves a pattern of self centered, arrogant thinking and behavior, a lack of empathy and consideration for other people, and an excessive need for admiration. Others often describe these people as cocky, manipulative, selfish, patronizing, and demanding.

With that being said, put your politics aside and honestly ask yourself who the above description better describes, Trump or Obama. Even the strongest of Trump supporters would probably agree that the definition fits Trump.

Scott, you are deflecting and pretending to have a selective memory! You asked me about Clinton, the original Gutter Man. If you didn't want my answer about Clinton, why bring him into the conversation. You can't have it both ways. Trump is not perfect. He is a businessman who ran for President and won. Bill Clinton and his wife are career politicians and they played fawning folks like you. All politics aside Bill Clinton is a pig, and his wife had no problem with that. Even the strongest Clinton supporters would probably agree that. Clinton. Did you read his latest book that he is promoting and promoting himself, he now claims to be the victim.? The women who came forward about Bill Clinton are Legion. Please, stop pretending about taking the high road, and talking about putting politics "aside for the good of the Country" when you comment on a press release from a political candidate for Congress while defending your progressive politics.

$130,000 in Hush money paid.

Boasts and brags about grabbing women by their private parts.

This is Trump, Rich. I would say that these actions are a tad "Less than perfect".

And take a look at the results of the G7 meetings this weekend. The name calling Narcissist picks a battle with Canada and calls their leader "Meek and Mild". Nice way to treat your friends, huh? This is the behavior of a Narcissist. He has embarassed us across the globe. But, if it makes you feel better to talk about Clinton, I guess that makes sense to you.

Let's just hope he does not dig us deeper in a hole as he heads to Singapore to take on his "Little Rocket Man".

Stormy Daniels, the porn star-prostitute alleged she had a non-violent, consensual affair with Trump when he was a private citizen. She didn’t claim rape, violence, or any coercion.

Stormy alleges to have signed a non-disclosure agreement and wanted out of it.

Here is the short list of Bill Clinton’s alleged and admitted sexual misconduct and affairs while public office.

Monica Lewinsky was a 22-year-old White House intern in 1995. Bill had many sexual encounters with her in the White House in the Oval Office. Monika kept the blue dress that had Clinton’s DNA on it.

When news broke in January 1998, Clinton denied the allegations until eventually admitting that he had an inappropriate relationship with Lewinsky in August of 1998.

In 1999, Juanita Broaddrick claimed Bill Clinton raped her in a motel room during a gubernatorial campaign stop in 1978.

In 1992, Gennifer Flowers claimed she was Bill’s mistress for over a decade. Clinton denied it on 60 Minutes with Hillary sitting beside him. In 1998, Clinton admitted to the affair.

Paula Jones claimed Clinton coaxed her to a hotel room where he made unwanted sexual advances towards her, including dropping his pants and asking her for oral sex. Clinton and Jones reached a settlement in 1998 in which Clinton agreed to pay Jones $850,000

In a 1998 interview on 60 Minutes, Kathleen Willey alleged Bill Clinton attempted to kiss her and groped her breasts and genitalia during an unwanted encounter in a private room near the Oval Office in 1993. Willey was a Democratic Party activist and met Clinton at a 1989 fundraiser event.

Bill Clinton is close friends with a registered sex offender and pedophile Jeffery Epstein. Epstein spent 13 months in prison and home detention for solicitation and procurement of minor children for prostitution. He had a team of traffickers who procured girls as young as 12 to service his friends on “Orgy Island,” Epstein's 72-acre island, in the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Bill Clinton was a frequent flyer on a registered sex offender’s infamous jet called the Lollita express with official flight logs showing him taking at least 26 trips between 2001 and 2003.

Did President Obama, or President Trump fly Lolita the to Orgy Island?

The answer is no, and Bill Clinton has perfected the art of the ART OF THE SLEAZE.

RIch - I see you are using your standard "SQUIRREL!!!!" tactic to deflect attention from the point of the article - that Trump is hurting the country by starting a trade war with Canada (he is).

Since you are trying to minimize the President's ethical shortcomings, though...

Stormy Daniels and Karen McDonald may have been consensual affairs, and though I find it detestable that a person supposedly in a committed relationship screw around on their partner, I consider that a relatively private thing outside of the statement it makes about their ethics/personality. That goes for Trump and Clinton.

However, not all of Trump's dalliances have been consensual, and that is the issue here. As he so readily admitted:

"I moved on her, and I failed. I'll admit it. I did try and f**k her. She was married.
And I moved on her very heavily. In fact, I took her out furniture shopping. She wanted to get some furniture. I said, "I'll show you where they have some nice furniture." I took her out furniture—I moved on her like a b***h. But I couldn't get there. And she was married. Then all of a sudden I see her, she's now got the big phony t*ts and everything. She's totally changed her look."

...and...

"I better use some Tic Tacs just in case I start kissing her. You know I'm automatically attracted to beautiful—I just start kissing them. It's like a magnet. Just kiss. I don't even wait. And when you're a star, they let you do it. You can do anything.
Grab 'em by the p***y. You can do anything."

"Grab 'em by the p***y".... Think about that. "Grab 'em by the p***y".... talk about deplorable.

I've never forgiven Clinton's screwing around and the affect it had on his administration. Obviously, many American voters felt as I did, that even with his screwing around he was a better candidate for President than Bob Dole in 1996. Clinton received almost 50% of the vote, outpacing Senator Dole by 8.5%. My guess is that he would have won by much more had he been faithful to Hillary Clinton.

Hey Tim, spot on. It is funny how Rich can refer to Clinton as "my hero". The truth of the matter is the guy makes my skin crawl. While it is true that I am a Democrat I can say that Clinton and his Blue Dog Centrist philosophy was the start of the decline of the Democratic Party. The friendly Wall Street donors had a friend there and the NAFTA and other anti-labor deals never made Clinton a hero of mine. Rich is wrong on this accusation.

But this original post was about a trade war with Canada being bad for WNY. For the life of me, I just do not comprehend how people such as Rich can justify in their own arguments that Clinton's behavior is something to be obsessed about as we ignore the current occupant of the White House.

Since this original post appeared, Trump surrogates have gone on to report that "There Is a Special Place In Hell For People Like Him", referring to Trudeau. All because he was doing what was in the best interests of his country. This should scare the hell out of anybody. For some reason, Rich decides to call Obama a Narcissist out of the blue during a trade conversation. To me, Trump's actions towards Trudeau are a clear cut example of just exactly what a narcissist is.

For the life of me, I don't see how Clinton or Obama are relevant to how one assesses Trump, his policies, his statements, or his actions.

Trump's policies, statements, and actions should be judged on their own merits. If you need to bring in some past politician for comparison sake it's rather an admission that Trump doesn't stand well on his own.

Tim, I see you’ve reverted to your default predictable pollywog position, and to the point of the political press release, titled, “McMurray says trade war with Canada hurts WNY,” by Nate McMurray. The said press release is the opinion of a Democrat running in the 27th District against Republican Chris Collins.

In Post #1, Scott, an admitted Democrat (see Post #11) agreed with the positions of Democrat Nate McMurray’s political press release and expanded upon it with his opinions.

In his Post #1’s last paragraph, Scott threw down the gauntlet when he said, “I wonder how long it will take for responsible Republicans to stand up and say "Enough is Enough.”

I picked up the gauntlet, and I responded in Post #2. Many other responsible Republicans and I don’t agree with Scott or Nate McMurray.

Scott feigned incredulity in Post # 4 for the fact I disagreed with him and called me part of the problem, and brought Clinton and Obama into the equation. Clinton and Obama do not appear Nate McMurray’s political press release.

In Post #6, Scott deflected. He said, “Rich, you seem to be a bit confused.
I have not ever met Mr. McMurray nor do I have any ties with him.”

The only one who is confused is Scott, or perhaps he pulled the confused comment out of his shorts. I never said or implied Scott, met with or had ties with Nate McMurray. Scott also said-accused me in Post #6, “Clinton has been out of office for 20 years, and you go to the gutter and call him a sexual predator.”

Scott brought Clinton and Obama forward in Post #4 to bolster his position-opinion as if they are models of honesty and integrity and then doesn’t like my response, the same for Post #6. He wants me to put my politics aside, while not putting his aside.

In Post #8, Scott again brings Clinton, (also see his Post #6). Scott accuses me of defending President Trump, even though I pointed out Trump’s affair in my Post # 9, in conjunction with President Clinton’s.

It is ironic how Scott brought up Clinton and Obama first, Tim, and he also brought North Korea into the equation in Post #6.

I can’t understand how people like Scott, are obsessed with and to attempt to minimize and deflect Clinton’s behavior while in a different vein, use him to bolster his argument.

It is also incredible that Scott wants free reign to criticize President Trump outside of the contents the Press release, (see Post #8), yet, he refuses to take any blame for first straying the from the main subject. Nonetheless, I withdraw the “your hero,” in Post #9.

I’ll take Scott at his word when he says, “The truth of the matter is the guy (Bill Clinton ) makes my skin crawl.” A shame he didn’t make this clear in Post # 4.

Responsible Republicans... ? I love it. Are those the same Republicans who have controlled the NYS Senate since before NYSAFE was passed, helped it pass into law, and have allowed it to stand and get funded every year since?
