Alleged shoplifter arrested after 17-minute manhunt

By Howard B. Owens

A 22-year-old Medina man accused of shoplifting Tuesday at Kmart allegedly resisted arrest and fled from a deputy, leading to a 17-minute manhunt that ended with his arrest on Batavia Downs property.

Jailed on $2,500 bail was Shawn Richard Wisniewski, of West Avenue Street, Medina.

Wisniewski was accused of trying to steal doe and buck urine.

Deputy Patrick Reeves responded to the store at 3:25 p.m. after the alleged attempted theft was reported and Reeves interviewed Wisniewski. When Reeves tried to arrest Wisiewski, Wisiewski allegedly resisted arrest and fled the store.

Assisting in the manhunt were Batavia PD and State Police.

Wisniewski was charged with petit larceny, escape, 3rd, resisting arrest and criminal possession of a controlled substance, 7th.

No information available on what the alleged controlled substance may have been.

The controlled substance was Javan Rhinoceros urine. The suspect (inspired by the late billionaire, Howard Hughes) collects urine. Javan Rhino are teetering on extinction, and possession of even the animal's urine is prohibited. According to Dr. Oleg Piddlewest of Stanford, urine stashers represent a rare form of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder that usually stems from early potty-training and the use of running water to stimulate elimination. The good news is that the obsession is readily curable.

Wait a minute CM, if it is readily curable why do I have 200 fifty five gallon drums full of my urine, stacked up near the back of my property, waiting for the price to go up? I already have a standing offer of a dollar per gallon, unrefined. When I fill my teapot in the morning I sometimes dribble. I hate that, it's money out of my pocket and I have to wipe it up and live with a wet pocket for a couple of hours, I hate that too.
