Hochul makes campaign stop in Le Roy

By Howard B. Owens

Kathy Hochul, Democratic candidate in the NY-26 special election to replace Chris Lee, stopped at Kati's Place in Le Roy this morning to talk with voters.

The stop is part of a weekend effort by Hochul to visit all seven counties in the NY-26 on Saturday and Sunday. Yesterday, she stopped at Seaman's Hardware in East Pembroke.

Her Republican opponent, Jane Corwin, also appears to be out on the campaign trail. She was in Genesee County yesterday but didn't notify the local media.

Yesterday, around noon, Corwin posted to Facebook:

Busy day meeting with folks in the community! Just left the Annual SCOPE Membership Meeting in Alabama and now on my way to the Wyoming County Hospital's 100th Anniversary Celebration in Warsaw. More on the schedule for later today.

No status updates from her since.

Thank you, Lorie Longhany, for coordinating this effort and Kati Mancuso for hosting Kathy Hochul this morning. I enjoyed meeting her and am impressed with how practical she is. She is also very approachable and natural. I hope everyone will educate themselves and get out to vote on May 24.

Kathy Hochul is one of the most down to earth candidates you will ever meet. She is well aware of the issues that district faces. As Erie County Clerk, she is in daily contact with people from all walks of life. That contact will hold her in good stead as our representative.
If you have a question, she is willing to stop and discuss it. You don't get the feeling that she is rushing through to get to something else. She's done her homework.
I'll second Jennifer's thanks to Lorie for coordinating the events over the weekend. Kathy visited one of the oldest established business in our county, Seaman's Hardware and one of the newest small business ventures, Kati's Place in LeRoy.

The next time she has a photo op in the area perhaps someone can ask her what she means by; "I know where the bodies are buried" and how that relates to tax breaks for small business owners.

First off, thank you for the kind words Jennifer and Bea, but I was just doing my job and I get lots of help from people like you. The real thanks go to the two businesses. It was just dumb luck to reach out to the oldest family owned business in the county and one of the newest. Just a very cool contrast of a wise and time tested 150 year old family business with a young, spunky and energetic upstart.

Kevin, I don't consider personal conversations with hundreds of real folks in this district photo ops. It's called campaigning. At Seamans Hardware there was no press, just questions and answers. Kathy loves public service and loves connecting. She spent two long days meeting and talking with small businesses, farmers, and citizens across this district in every county. She's been in Genesee County four times in about a week in a half. She sends out press advisories because she is running an open campaign, not a vanity campaign where she stays squirreled away by handlers who control her message. The press also chooses whether they cover the events or not.

As far as -- "I know where the bodies are buried" it's just an expression, I believe, relating to the experience that she can bring to cut to the chase on behalf of her constituents. She knows who and where to go to get things done. There won't be a learning curve for Kathy Hochul. She'll fight either side if an issue comes up that might hurt the people of the 26th, just as she's fought as the Erie County Clerk.

Kevin, if you really are interested in what Kathy has to say, why not come to her next visit to our area.
She has a positive attitude; an honest approach to the issues facing our area and I have yet to hear her utter ONE word against the other candidates.
What I have heard is Kathy's dedication to public service and the people, from all walks of life, that she comes in contact with every day.

Ironically William it was the former Spaulding Lake, vanity congressman, Chris Lee who's made all this possible. You'll have the same opportunity to go back to the same lake community for more of the same on the republican line. Or there's always Jack Davis or the Green candidate. Or write in David Bellavia. Lots of options in this special election.

Personally, I've had enough of party versus party. How about checking out each individual candidate and voting for that person? IMHO not only is Kathy Hochul approachable and a hard worker, she is definitely her own person. She has a record of fighting against Albany, including the governor (a democrat) on issues that affect every day people like you and me.

I had no idea Jane Corwin was in our county this weekend until I read it above. I would have gone to hear what she has to say.

If your intention is to defeat the Republican running for the 26th. District seat vacated by disgraced former Cong. Chris Lee then the obvious choice is Jack Davis. He as real experience creating jobs as opposed to the Republican candidate whose claims are at best an exageration of a misrepresentation of her experience as is her new found opposition to the trade and industrial policies that have ruined our American economy.....Ms. Hochul to be fair has done a very good job as Erie County Clerk, but it is time we sent someone to Washington who can be an independent voice against those whose trade, industrial and economic policies have led to a near economic collapse that threatens our American way of life.
