Lake effect snow warning issued for Genesee County

By Howard B. Owens

We're now looking at a lake effect snow warning for this afternoon through 10 a.m. Friday.

This covers all of Genesee County.

Some 10 to 18 inches of snow are possible.

Winds will be from the southwest at 20 to 30 mph with visibility dropping to a quarter of a mile at times.

Blowing and drifting snow will result in hazardous travel conditions, the National Weather Service warns.

If traveling, conditions can change quickly.

UPDATE: Officials say plans for tonight's centennial celebration will go ahead as scheduled.

If your questioning the second word in Howard's report Dave, I believe it's worded correctly as is. It was previously a "watch"... and it's NOW a "warning".

At the moment there's about a 50% chance the city of Batavia will be experiencing the lake effect snow but I can personally guarantee with 100% accuracy that it's going to be pretty cold and a bit breezy. For all that are attending the festivities downtown tonight hope for the best and dress accordingly if you're attending the outdoor events.

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL!!!
