Local entrepreneurs plan teen nightclub at former gym location on East Main

By Howard B. Owens

Tim Walton, the 21-year-old entrepreneur behind Top Line Shirt Company, is planning another business venture.

He and a partner, Mike Marchese, are planning to open a teen nightclub at 624 E. Main St., Batavia, in the spring.

The building is owned by Ken Mistler and once housed his gym, which is now located at the corner of East Main and Jackson streets, downtown.

Impulz Teen Nightclub is expected to open in the spring, Walton said.

The space is 7,350 square feet and Walton said it is already well set up for a DJ booth and dance floor.

The club will cater to teens in high school and middle school and be similar to iTeen, a popular nightclub in Buffalo that draws young people from throughout the region.

Walton said he first conceived of the idea when was 18 because he and his friends felt there weren't enough entertainment options in Batavia. But until now, he said, he couldn't afford to open such a venue.

To avoid the need of a loan to fully fund the venture, Walton turned to Marchese as a business partner to help get the doors open.

There will be extensive renovations inside the building before the club can open, Walton said.

Originally, Mistler intended to put a nightclub in the space, Walton said, but Mistler has become busy with his business ventures downtown, which include The Daily Grind, Next Level Fitness and South Beach Restaurant. Mistler has been providing advice and pointers during the start-up process, Walton said.

I have heard about these things in Buffalo. For some reason I have a feeling this is going to make them a killing. It's about time there is something for kids to do in the area.

A Teen Nightclub? Bad Idea. If your going to open a nightclub, make sure its for the 21 and over crowd. Nightclub and teenagers which means anyone from the age of 13 to 19. Your looking for trouble. Bad idea all around.

Jason last time Batavia had Fuel, the 21+ nightclub it got shutdown due to problems... teen club=no alcohol and less problems. Look at the iTeen events held in Buffalo and Rochester. They never have problems at these things. Whenever there is labeled security kids take caution and behave. Kids go from all over to go to these things and I drove there to take my nephew there. They are a hit and he loves it. I'm sure they are going to be dividing the ages up by nights like most clubs do that deal with teens.

Tim and Mike I think it's a great idea... best of luck and I am sure my nephew will be there too!

"Whenever there is labeled security kids take caution and behave."
Hmmm???? If you say so.

I knew of two of theses clubs growing up, they were a lot of fun but they had a lot of problems in the parking lots with drinking and drugs. They also had to start carding the people to keep the 21 year olds out. Both these places where shut down a couple of times but did a GREAT business in the first year. I'm not sure if the area here is big enough to keep it in business for very long, as with a regular night club.

Every club that we have researched that has shut down, was due to the general rules not being followed by the owners.

The clubs that succeed follow strict guidelines.

We will be paying extra to hire NYS licensed security guards, and off duty Buffalo / Rochester Police officers to make sure that those problems do not occur and that this will be a fun and safe atmosphere for everyone that attends.

Jason- 13-19 year olds will not be allowed in all on the same nights. It will be divided out to avoid problems there.

Great idea!!! Batavia does not have enough things for kids to do... Rather have them in a safe enjoyable place than walking the streets... Everyone use to go to Roller Skate Rinks back in the day...

I'll tell you what... As a DJ I do a lot of work for schools. Dances, balls, special events and such and I have always thought that this kind of place was needed. Teens love to dance and socialize in a public setting. My nieces are always going to Buffalo and Rochester with their friends to these types of places. To have it in arms reach sounds great to me. Especially when Your kids are going into the city where there are a lot more problems. I think there are issues no matter what the venue is. That's kids this generation. Far more violent and angry I guess. I think with good managment and strict rules and regulations it could be great for owners and teens. I say good luck to ya. Way better than wendy's parking lot like when I was a kid.

I'm having a "Tryst" flashback to 1968 or 69. The "Electric Lightbulb Sandwich Band" has just taken the stage and I am feeling very groovy. I hope it never fades. Tim Walton and Mike Marchese have faith, vision and my moral support. Good luck smart dudes, Batavia needs more of y'all.

Cool idea. Always looked forward to the local "Teen Night" when I was growing up. There was the occasional problem with fights and drinking, but it was few and far between.

It sounds like they have done their research. I wish them the best of luck.

"We will be paying extra to hire NYS licensed security guards, and off duty Buffalo / Rochester Police officers"...How about hiring off duty officers and deputies from right here?

Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure you can't privately hire officers within their jurisdictions (which would be Batavia Police, GC Sherrif and State Police) which would make sense as to why they are hiring them out of Buffalo and Rochester.

I truly hope this works out. I do seem to recall another attempt at this many many years ago at the Wendy's end of the mall. It started out as a teen night club then changed to a country bar and eventually closed up. If they run a tight ship and have a decent place, they should do well. I wish them the best!

Law enforcement work all kinds of private security jobs in their own jurisdictions on their own time. A couple that come to mind off the bat are local law enforcement working private security for Darien Lake concerts and Erie Co Sheriffs and Buffalo PD at Bills and Sabres games. Just thought it was better to hire local first.
