Thieves make off with bounty in tractor weights

By Howard B. Owens

Craig Yunker, owner of CY Farms and Batavia Turf, posted this picture to Twitter with the message: "Thieves stole our tractor weights right off our tractor. They look like this. Keep a look out."

Yunker said the weights retail for $3,000.

Tractor weights are used to counter balance whatever a tractor is pulling or lifting.

Tips can be called into the Sheriff's Office at 343-5000.

Anyone showing up at a scrap yard with tractor weights or brass plaques from cemeteries, etc, those should be red flags for the scrap yard. It just seems as though the scrap yards should be able to know what's actually scrap and whats been stolen. How about with each load brought to the scrap yard, a picture of the scrap, the person selling the scrap and a picture of the driver's license should be taken. That should be easy to accomplish with how inexpensive a digital camera and/or a smart phone is these days.

I'm so sick of thieves stealing from our neighbors. My house in Rochester was burglarized several times and a 4-wheeler was stolen right from my driveway in East Bethany. It's a sickening feeling to know that people couldn't care less about their victims.

Our son sells scrap metal from time to time at the various yards in the area, has for several years now. From what he tells me, those measures are already in place.
