Today's Poll: Do you feel the system is stacked against you?

By Howard B. Owens

Although we are WAY overburdened by taxes and government regulations, I believe that life is what we make it.

Andrew Carnagie was a vile little man with an even smaller conscience, his descendent's still look to destroy organized labor and undermine the practice of collective bargaining....not cotnent to pay his employees as little as possible for working under the most severe conditions Mr. Carnagie saw fit to open fire on strikers with his own private army. He is hardly a man who should be held up as a role model or quoted.

In their own words:

Herman Cain: "Don't Blame Wall Street, Don't Blame The Big Banks, If You Don’t Have A Job And You’re Not Rich, Blame Yourself"

Anita Perry: "My son had to resign his job because of federal regulations that Washington has put on us," Mrs. Perry said while campaigning for her husband in South Carolina, after a voter shared the story of losing his job.

"He resigned his job two weeks ago because he can't go out and campaign with his father because of SEC regulations," she continued, referring to the Securities and Exchange Commission. "He has a wife... he's trying to start a business. So I can empathize."

"My son lost his job because of this administration," she said a few minutes later.

Mitt Romney: "And that's the middle class," Romney continued. "It's not those in the low end; it's certainly not those in the very high end. It's for the great middle class - the 80 to 90 percent of us in this country."

President Barack Hussien Obama: "With each vote, Members of Congress can either explain to their constituents why they’re against common-sense, bipartisan proposals to create jobs, or they can listen to the overwhelming majority of American people who are crying out for action. Because with so many Americans out of work and so many families struggling, we can’t take “no” for an answer. Ultimately, the American people won’t take “no” for an answer.

For those who wondered how the kids would turn out as adults after 12 years of public education telling them; "everyone gets a ribbon, "we shouldn't keep score", etc. all while pushing social promotion and self-esteem over actual subject matter - now you know. Also, realistically, how many job opportunities are there for a college degree in 13th Century French Philosophers or Musical Theory?

There is no "system" that keeps one down. There are however alot of people that don't want to put in the hard work and determination required in order to be successful.

Sung to the tune, "The Night They Drove Ol Dixie Down"

Herman Cain is my name,
Ham-burgers was my game.
Till the Godfather rang,
And I started all over again.
In the winter of aught-five,
When the Koch brothers picked-up on my jive.
I took the train to Wichita, do-tell.
It was a time I remember, oh, so well.

The night they shut Wisconsin down,
Fox News was trippin.
The night they shut Wisconsin down;
Scott Walker came a-singin'.
He went naaaaaa, na-na-na-na-naaaaaa
Na-na, na-na, na-na-na-na-naaaaaa.

Back with my wife in Atlanta-Gee,
And one day she called to me,
Herman, quick come see,
…Says you’re winnin’ on the TV.
Now, I don't mind, jawin’ ya-know,
Like Rush- I got a radio show.
Take all you need and screw the rest.
Cause the AFP is doin’ their devil-best.

The night they shut Wisconsin down,
Fox News was trippin.
The night they shut Wisconsin down;
Scott Walker came a-singin'.
He went naaaaaa, na-na-na-na-naaaaaa
Na-na, na-na, na-na-na-na-naaaaaa.

I hold-up my father before me,
Like I'm a working man.
Even Paul Ryan adores me
…Digs my triple-9 plan.
Tea Party: sewed up, Florida’s okay,
Just the former senator standin' in the way;
I swear by the peeps under my feet,
You can't raise Sarah Palin back up…
When it's in defeat.

The night they shut Wisconsin down,
Fox News was trippin.
The night they shut Wisconsin down;
Scott Walker came a-singin'.
He went naaaaaa, na-na-na-na-naaaaaa
Na-na, na-na, na-na-na-na-naaaaaa.

Herman Cain: "Don't Blame Wall Street, Don't Blame The Big Banks, If You Don’t Have A Job And You’re Not Rich, Blame Yourself"

I can see the GOP/Tea Party Supporters in Genesee Co. climbing all over this guy. He is speaking their language.

C.M.? I played the bongos on that song, until Herm took them away and gave me spoons instead. I played the spoons on that song until Herm took them away and gave me a slice of double cheese bacon hamburger and sausage extra cheese double crust taco salad pizza and then I took a nap until heartburn woke me up. I believe "the system" is the proverbial "system" as exemplified in phrases like "beat the system," "the system is broken," "F*** the system (Abbie Hoffman et al);" it's sort of like the anonymous- while intuitively understood, "they."

What wrong with some personally responsibility Bea? Thats the problem with the left of this country, they want a consequence free society. Abortion and welfare are just 2 quick examples of how no one is made to deal with poor decisions they make in thier life.

The alternative to Mr. Cain's speech is that we go and join the lazy good for nothings on welfare. If people are unhappy where they are in thier life its THEIR responsibility to fix it, NO ONE ELSES. Stop looking to blame other people for your own mistakes.

Remember Bea, it was JFK a DEMOCRAT who said "ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country." Not blame everyone else for your problems and live off your hard working neighbor.

The system is the man with his boot on your neck. The system means the fat cats, the corrupt pigs, the heartless and greedy bassturds and the motherfathers who don't give a good gosh darn about me or you or America.

Just so you don't think I am a Godless heathen, even though I am, I've included this video because it is heartfelt positive music that I used to believe in until I didn't feel it any longer. I still love the music and the message, I just don't like the people it hangs out with. You truly are judged by your peers, I don't want to be the peer of people who hide behind Jesus for political gain. Even though it won't make any difference once I'm dead, I can denouce them while I'm still alive.

MLK never gave a speech like that, or did he?

Wow, a little touchy, aren't we?
All I said is that he will be the darling of Genesee Co.'s right.
The two of you jumping on it, certainly gives merit to that.
There is nothing wrong with contributing to society. I don't believe JFK ever meant that if you aren't rich or if you don't have a job then you ARE the blame for society's ails.
If that is the case, then the 90 people who will be losing their jobs at Lowe's are to blame and not the corporation that didn't think Batavia was worth their continued effort.
Give me a break!

Gerard, when you don't vote the voter supression they so desperately want becomes effortless. If you don't know who I mean by "they" it is the brutal pigs, the ugly americans, the CIA/FBI, not the AFL/CIO or the AFC/NFL, it is the force that killed the Kennedy's, MLK, Osama Bin Laden and eventually you, me and anyone else who speaks out against totally submissive world dominance. It's 99% of us and we can kick their asses around the block if we don't roll over on our backs and wait for a belly scratch that will never come. We need to stick voter apathy right up their anuses. Vote dude, vote.

CM,

Not to make light of your post (because those videos WERE very interesting) however while watching that first video, the 60 min video about the oil market all i could think of was an episode of south park that originally aired March of 09 called MARGARITAVILLE. It was all about the downward spiral of the economy and actually dealt with MUCH of the info provided by that vid you posted, in fact all you really have to do is take out oil and put in "home margarita mixing machines" to that 60 minutes clip and thats EXACTLY what the south park episode was about. A very well written and hillarious episode.

Are you watching the meltdown live on CNN tonight? I've watched them all, these fools scare the hell out of me. Batavia is much better than what they have to offer, which is nothing. Y'all have had too much of nothing for way too long. Occupy Batavia, may I suggest the office of the Batavian? Howard's cool. He believes in free speech and medicinal marijuana, just like me. That's why we love him, he's a friggin' cool dude, not a wort on your finger like the idiots I'm watching right now.
You know I'm telling the truth, you know I am.

Maybe it was some of the 90 or so workers who are to blame for Lowes closing..This is just my opinion..But i preferred home depot to Lowes just because i felt i got better service over there and more expertise on the questions i need to have answered....I had a few issues at Lowes that were more about Mangers not knowing about the products they were selling..It not like Lowes is going out of business..they still plan to grow there business at a slower pace..

I have noticed that not all posts on the Batavian are deleted if they contain "name calling". I have only posted one, and it technically wasn't even calling any one person a name, but I categorized certain people that do certain things as "scum". I have seen much more pointed vitriol since get a pass, so I guess I feel this system kept me down once. Of course when you dabble in censorship as a journalist, I assume it is difficult to maintain a fair standard.

I never dabble in censorship. I've never censored anybody on The Batavian. First, I'm not the government. Second, no comment has ever been deleted because of the ideas expressed, only the means of expression.

And John, sorry I'm not perfect like you.

Ed, the quote from Carnegie stands on its own merits, regardless on your personal opinion of the man. I too am opposed to "collective bargaining" and believe the practice is the single most important factor in this country having become devoid of manufacturing,

And you are wrong on the history end. It was actually Henry Frick who authorized force used against strikers at the Homestead plant - against Carnegie's wishes. Carnegie did not have a quarrel with the unions - even when THEY started the violence. His attitude was much like mine; if they don't like working here, let them find another job. There are plenty of people to replace them.
