Today's Poll: Has the Oak Street roundabout improved the intersection?

Go through there around 2-3pm traffics backed up to the Main street light and sometimes a real mess. I agree with Greg as far as people not knowing what to do when they get to it. Yield to the left people! It's not that hard. lol

I live on Franklin and it is way better with the roundabout than what it was like before that. You could never get off my street around 3:00 p.m. and now if I have to people stop because of the roundabout and let you cut in. Before it was every man (or woman) for themselves. I think the old way was more confusing to people because everyone thought they had the right of way. Getting off of South Main is a 100% better now.

It cannot be compared to a roundabout in the middle of a 55 MPH highway if that's what generated the question. In slow speed areas, a roundabout for problem intersections makes sense.

Spot on Sam!
I myself think the roundabout is just a small version with many signs to read while watching traffic for some, And then some just want to blast through it. It seems that people are getting used to the idea as time goes on. I am not sure how this would work in a 55 mph zone.

I'm not following your question. I live right down the road from suicide corners so of course I know it's an intersection. The low speed roundabout in Batavia can't be compared to a roundabout in the middle of a 55 MPH highway. I'm assuming the roundabout proposal for suicide corners generated this poll. The roundabout intersection in Batavia is better than the cluster that was there before, but the problems at suicide corners are completely different. The speeds are different and the problems contributing to the accidents are different.

I've been through the round-about on Oak Street, probably a hundred times.....noo problemo. The key......no playing with the radio, no changing CD's, no combing your hair, no putting on make-up (for ladies only......well, maybe not), no juggling your coffee and bagel, no looking at the passenger, and of course, no talking on the phone, texting or looking at pictures of your boy friend, girl friend, lover, husband, wife, or children. And no daydreaming about anything.

The real key....keep your eyes WIDE OPEN !!!!! I have yet to see any rockets being launched from the little island in the center of the round-about!

I live near that traffic circle and drive through it at least twice day to and from work. It is several orders of magnitude better there than it was before it was constructed. 60% of the people who voted in this poll, the no voters, obviously do not drive through there on a routine basis and perhaps ought to be retrained and retested to retain their driving privileges.

That traffic circle also made it much much safer for pedestrians. Crossing Oak at South Main on foot or on a bicycle used to be an attempt of suicide. Not anymore, not even close.
