Today's Poll: Should the county provide $213K in funding to GCEDC?

By Howard B. Owens

78% of people said NO. The last poll i saw on this, it got the most votes for getting cut OUT of the budget. So yeah, why does this even still exist?
We live in a democracy so how do all these things that no one wants keep getting funding! Screw GCEDC Fix the damn bridges or something else with that money.

Christopher,
One reason this passed was that when people had the chance to tell the legislators, face to face, at the budget hearing, 99% of them stayed home. Veterans wanted changes, they showed up, and got the changes. Show up, speak up, or this is what we get.

John I agree that this is a small portion of the problem. However the impression I got on the phone today with the few legislators that would answer their phones was that even those who claim they havent heard from their constituents, actually have. And that Mr. Hyde has them and others in his pocket as far as those things go so it will not change, unless we change the people in those seats.

Aren't GCEDC employees public employees? If Mr. X, a public employee employed by GCEDC and a member of the NYS retirement system is awarded a 60,000 bonus and then retires AND that bonus is counted as salary toward Mr. X's retirement benefit, how much are the taxpayers of NYS really paying for that bonus?

Im glad i went back to my profile to check the comments on this thread. I am really really really super overboard happy to see that almost everyone that posted has there eyes wide open, their brain on, and are seeing clearly the way our money is being squandered and passed around to just those few special people that are in the club. None of us are in the club, lol.

As to the comment that more people should show up to the meetings or council sessions. Make the meetings on a Saturday, at 2 pm, then see how many people show up. With the meetings on weekdays, at between 5 and 8 pm, people that have the most vested interest in the meetings (Single parents, People working 2 jobs, people that worked all day and have kids to cook for, clean up and get to bed. Yeah let me find some daycare for my kids at 7 pm so i can come to a council session! ROFL ) are unable to attend because they have other more pressing responsibilities. Im sure the council members have no problem making the meetings at any time, after all, they are there getting paid from our dime. Getting a pat on the back from GCEDC... haha
