Today's Poll: What is the state of the U.S. economy?

By Howard B. Owens

So, is the 188 yes votes and the 41 staying the same but, good votes, just people who drink from the Obama Kool-Aid and want Obama to take control of their lives so, they do not have to work anymore? How anyone can believe the economy is actually getting better is amazing. Those who believe that the current economy is in a good state. All I can say is WOW! Really, how is this good? I have approximately 35-40 military reservist who still cannot find a job on the outside and beg for orders so, they can get some money. Granted most of them are college students but, if, the economy was improving so, should their chance at finding a job.

Who will Liberals blame after another four years of Obama BS? Those who vote for Obama again after seeing his failed policies who are you going to blame? I know I am blaming, people who do not research the facts and see Obama for what he is. You all accused Bush of lying about WMD but, here you have Obama lie to America and blame the attack of our embassy in Libya on a You Tube video. When he and his cabinet knew it was an actually terrorist strike. Those of you with military experience should be able to look at the facts and know that to be true.

BTW, we know a President does not have total control of the economy but, the plans they put in place help direct it. So, I ask you this! Who would be better to understand how a business is ran? A Lawyer or a Business Grad? Stands to reason a persons with business knowledge would have more experience in directing a economy over a lawyer. Let's face it a politician is a politician but, who can direct this country in the right economical path?

Although the economy has not strengthened as much as we would like, We have seen several months of private sector job growth under Obama. I think a lot more can be done in this country to increase job growth, but it is something that Republicans and Democrats need to work together on. We have seen too much division among members of congress and leaders in our political system. You can't deny that the Republicans have put the good of the country aside to destroy this president by saying NO to anything and everything that this president and democrats in congress propose. To quote Republican Senator Mitch McConnell.. "my number one priority is making sure president Obama’s a one-term president." That has pretty much been the attitude of the republican party since Obama took office. So considering what he had to work with, Id say that he has done a decent job at keeping this country's economy at least afloat. Things would have been a lot worse had the bailout not saved the automotive industry. Many look at that and feel that it wasn't the government's place to step in there, but the automotive industry is a major life line when it comes to our economy. Not only are millions of autoworker's jobs at stake, but so are the millions of other jobs that depend on that industry. There would have been a complete collapse had we not taken action. A crisis like that takes many years to recover from. As the old saying goes, as GM goes, so does the country. Had Obama not bailed out the auto industry, he would have been criticized for doing nothing.

Our economy is mostly a faith based economy. Supply and demand work on the basic principle of faith. Demand drives supply. Not the other way around. Consumers need to have a restored faith in the economy. All this talk about the economy getting worse and worse is not helping matters at all. It is taking an economy that could be getting better faster and slowing it down. Although this is a natural when it comes to boosting an economy, it is being hampered by the increasing gap between political parties and complete misinformation. If we restore our faith in the economy, the rules of supply and demand ensure faster recovery. Businesses will hire more people to produce more, who will in turn purchase more goods and services and the cycle will continue.

One thing I do not stand for is the accusation that liberals just want to have everything given to them and don't want to work. Sure there are those out there that abuse the system. And they aren't all liberals. But this has become a typical lie that is repeated over and over. The majority of the people that receive some sort of government assistance really need it and would rather be working. But as we all should know, Ds and Rs alike, jobs are tough to find, and the cost of living is becoming more and more expensive. One of the things that separates this country from third world countries is our social safety net that allows the poor to eat, have access to health care and a roof over their heads. You can't assume that 47% of the country is lazy and wants to have everything handed to them. That is just plain wrong and insulting. Even if a small percentage do feel that way, you then put shame on those people that are actually in need by lumping everyone in together. Shaming the poor and those in need is un-American and quite frankly, un-Christian. For a country that holds the bible so close to its heart, it better start reading it.
