Tremor felt in Batavia

By Howard B. Owens

We've received reports from three readers who felt a small earthquake in Batavia.

It's possibly related to a 5.9 shaker that struck Virginia within the past 15 or 20 minutes.

Didn't feel it, as I work on the 2nd floor of a large building, but I heard about it via a text from my father who lives in Arlington, VA and works in DC. Haven't heard back from my mother yet... I'm sure she's fine, but you always have to check! Wasn't the last earthquake in the DC area back in 2010 and it was just under 4.0, right?? The world's a'changin'!

I remember one in the sixties. North Lyon Street was shaking. Who could ever forget the feeling of an earthquake?
I hope Batavia doesn't cave in. Be glad you are not in California, although the wimmen are prettier and the vibe is cool. How would I know? I don't.
Wimmen are cool, but Batavia attracts real homegrown authentic actual women and men, way more cool.

If you stop and think about all of the stuff we as a human race have sucked out of the earth, why wouldn't it implode? It's 40% hollow, or more.

My husband said he felt at at work at Amada Tool, he thought it was a lift truck going too fast in the facility, but was the same time everyone else is reporting, around 2 o'clock

There were posts about a week ago, either on here or from locals on FB that mentioned feeling tremors. I honestly didn't feel them, but I was on the sixth floor at the computer at the time.
George, remember that one! I was sitting on the sidewalk talking to neighbors.
At first I thought the furnace exploded, but then logic surfaced and I remembered it was the middle of summer.
I also remember one on New Year's morning in 1966. It was quite early in the morning and I was feeding my son and looking out the window. Watched the trees sway. I remember thinking about those who had partied the night before and what they must have thought.
Another time, I was driving back to work and had to go under the Buffalo Airport runway tunnel to get to the office. When I got there, everyone was buzzing about the earthquake. Never felt a thing.

Apparently the epicenter has been determined to be at a cemetery in N VA where many of our founding fathers are buried. It seems they all rolled over in their graves at the same time.
