Francis E. Miggins

LeRoy ~ Francis E. Miggins, age 91, passed away Sunday evening (January 31, 2016) at the New York State Veterans Home in Batavia.

    

Mr. Miggins was born January 8, 1925 in Batavia, a son of the late John and Myrtis Reid Miggins.

     He was known for his craftsmanship of being a cabinet maker, working in the local family business, Miggins Wood Products.  Over the years, he made and provided most of his family's furniture.  He was a proud US Army veteran, having served in the 1st Infantry Division and landing on Omaha Beach on D-Day.  After having been severely wounded during the war, he was honorably discharged and was the recipient of the Silver Star, Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart, World War II Victory Medal, American Campaign Medal, European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, Distinguished Unit Badge and Combat Infantryman Badge.

     He was predeceased by his loving wife of 67 years, Maureen C. Miggins in 2014 and is survived by his son, Michael (Kay) Miggins of LeRoy and his daughter, Phyllis (Gerald) Ashley of LeRoy, grandchildren, Carrie (Mark) Baubie, Brian (Heather) Ashley, Robert (Lori) Miggins and Patrick (Raelle) Ashley; great-grandchildren, Nicholas and Brody Baubie, Devin Sherman, Cole Ashley, Taylor, Morgan and Dylan Miggins and Jackson Ashley; sister, Barbara Brown of LeRoy, along with several nieces and nephews.

     In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by his brothers, Norbert Miggins and Robert Miggins.

     There are no prior calling hours. Services and interment will be private at the convenience of the family.  Memorials are suggested to the New York State Veterans Home, Veterans' Activity Fund, 220 Richmond Avenue, Batavia, N.Y. 14020.
