Samuel C. Norris

  Samuel C. Norris, 91, of Batavia, (formally of Alexander), passed away in his home, after a brief illness on February 4, 2016. He was born on December 30, 1924 in Welland, Ontario, Canada, the son of the late Samuel J. and May (Rogers) Norris. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Janette (Edwards) Norris, who died April 10, 2009. He was also predeceased by his son in law, Danby Best.

Samuel was a veteran of the Canadian Army and served in WWII. His unit landed on Juno Beach, France on D-Day. His dream was realized when he revisited Juno Beach on June 6, 2005. He was able to attend the memorial service at the Canadian Museum to honor those men that landed on D-Day. Samuel was a life member, past president, and past assistant chief of the Alexander Fire Department. He was also a life member of WNY Volunteer Firemen’s Association. Samuel served as president in 2000. He was a member of the Attica Masonic Lodge. Mr. Norris retired from Griffith Oil. He worked part time at the Alexander Post office for many years.

 He is survived by his childrenSusan (Corky) Best of East Bethany, Charles (Lisa) Norris of Attica, Valerie (Ross) Dubin of Las Vegas, NV, Deanna (Daniel) Schwab of North Java; Grandchildren Jason (Jessica) Best of Bergen, Brian (Jennifer) Best of Batavia,Sarah (Mitch Zajac) Best of Depew, Ashley (Chuck) Hurd of Williamstown, Stephanie (Adam) Krebs of Warsaw, Jennifer Schwab of North Java, Kevin (Morgan Schmid) Schwab of North Java, Rachelle Dubin of Las Vegas, NV, Brandon Dubin of South Carolina; great-grandchildren Benjamin, Ashlyn, Rachel, Olivia, & Isabelle Best, Easton & Eve Krebs, and Mackenzie Zajac; sister Gertrude (Jergen) Dombrosky of Toronto, Canada along with many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are invited to call on Monday February 8, 2016 from 2-4 PM and 6-9 PM at Marley Funeral Home, LLC. 135 Main Street Attica, New York 14011.  A 10:00 AM Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday February 9, 2016 at to St. James Episcopal Church 405 East Main Street Batavia, New York 14020. He will be laid to rest in Alexander Cemetery.
