Roger D. Porter, 74, of Oakfield passed away on Sunday June 26, 2016 at Strong Memorial Hospital with his loving family by his side. He was born on June 16, 1942 in Plasterco, VA to the late James and Ella Mae (Sanders) Porter. He is predeceased by a son, Roger D. Porter Jr., brother Monte Porter and sister Sharon Delahanty.

Roger was a devoted and loving family patriarch.  The umbrella of his love and generosity spread far and wide.  Roger was a fount of wisdom and provided a calming guiding hand to all he loved. Roger was an avid outdoorsman. When he was not growing his family, he enjoyed farming and hunting his land in West Barre. Roger was also a devoted Buffalo Bills fan.  He held season tickets for several decades and attended all four SuperBowls. In defense of our beleaguered franchise, he would often declare the Bills are the only true “red-white-and-blue” franchise in the NFL.

He is survived by his loving wife Lois Porter of Oakfield; daughters Cherie (Jamie) Egloff of Oakfield and Robyn (Mark) Godwin of Corfu; brothers Eddie (Debbie) Porter of N. Carolina, Tom (Mary Lou) Porter of Oakfield; sister Norma (Dave) Heale of Bergen; sister in law Anita Porter of Brockport; grandchildren Roger Scroger, Bradley and Melissa Shaughnessy, Krisha Godwin, 2 great grandchildren along with many nieces and nephews.

There will be no prior calling hours. Funeral Services will be held privately for the family. He will be laid to rest in Cary Cemetery in Oakfield.
