Donald J. Cecere Sr.

Donald J. Cecere Sr., 85, of Gainesville, FL. formally of Batavia passed away peacefully on Saturday February 11, 2017 at the North Florida Hospital surrounded by his loving family. he was born on June 21, 1931, a son of the late Angelo and Adeline (Sangus) Cecere. In addition to his parents, Donald is predeceased by Mary LoBello Cecere; brothers Albert, William, Victor, Anthony, Richard, Joseph, Arthur, Louis and Lester Cecere; sisters Mary Chaya, Edna Predmore, Dolores Figlow and Adeline Gioia.

Donald was a member of St. Anthony’s Church in Batavia. He was a United States Army Veteran in the Korean War and also was a member of the National Guard. He was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers and was in the construction business most of his life. Don was a devoted father and grandfather who loved his children, grandson, nieces and nephews more than anything. He was an avid sports fan who loved watching the Buffalo Bills and going to UF softball games. You could always find him in his shop working on his projects. Donald will never be forgotten by everyone who felt his love, kindness and sense of humor.

He is survived by his son; Donald J. Cecere Jr., of Gainesville, Fl.; daughters Ann M. Cecere of Gainesville, Mary J. Cecere of Gainesville and Therese M. (David Stupp) Zigrossi of Batavia; his beloved grandson Andrew Zigrossi, who was his pride and joy; along with his pals Georgie and Dexter.

There will be no prior calling hours. Family and friends are invited to attend a 9:30AM Mass of Christian Burial on Monday February 20, 2017 at Resurrection Parish (St. Mary’s) 18 Ellicott St. Batavia, NY 14020.
