Loretta Kriger Schum

Loretta Kriger Schum, 93, of Attica, NY peacefully passed away surrounded by her family on Friday, June 16, at the Premier Genesee Healthcare Facility in Batavia. Born on September 25, 1923, she was the daughter of William and Edith Lyall Kriger.  Loretta was predeceased by her dear husband, Robert P. Schum, whom she married on February 14, 1953.

Loretta was a 1940 graduate of Alexander High School and editor of the school’s first yearbook.  She graduated from Rochester Business Institute with a business/secretarial degree.  She retired from NYS Office of Real Property Tax Services in 1991 and was an Avon Representative for 50 years, starting in1967.   Loretta was an active member of Ss. Joachim and Anne Parish, Attica, NY, in the past serving as an officer in the Altar & Rosary Society, Bishop’s Committee to aid new mothers, funeral luncheon committee, and library volunteer and Home School Association member at GWCCS Catholic School.  She was awarded “Fan of the Year” at Alexander Central School in 2005 for her support and attendance at her granddaughters’ sports events and was also active in the Red Hats Express. Loretta had a wonderful sense of humor throughout her life.  She loved music, books, and writing, but her biggest joy came from being with her family. 

She will be greatly missed by her children, Veronica (Robert) Frost, Catherine (George) Uhly, and Thomas Schum, granddaughters Katrina Uhly (husband Christian), Laura Uhly (fiancé John Swinton), and Diana Uhly (fiancé Brett Shirley), great-granddaughter Evelyne, sister-in-law Margaret Schum, and many nieces and nephews.  She was the sister of the late Kenneth (Eva) Kriger, Dorothy (Floyd) Welker, Veronica Kriger, and Francis (Marjorie) Kriger.

Calling hours for Loretta will be held on Tuesday June 20, 2017 from 4:00 – 8:00PM at Marley Funeral Home, LLC. 135 Main Street Attica, New York 14011. An 11:00AM Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday the 21st at St. Joachim & Anne Parish 50 East Ave. Attica, NY 14011. She will be laid to rest in St. Vincent’s Cemetery in Attica.
