Vincent Dean Messina

Vincent Dean Messina, 75, passed away on Wednesday, October 14, 2014, at his home in Haines City, Florida after a brief illness. Mr. Messina was born on August, 28, 1939, in Batavia, the oldest son of the late Charles and Beatrice (Martino) Messina.

“Vinny” graduated in 1957 from Notre Dame High School and then went on to attend Niagara University and the University of Buffalo. He worked as a Union Official at Batavia Downs and also worked on many construction projects throughout the area until retiring to Florida in 1999. Vincent enjoyed the harness racing industry and was a former harness horse owner and member of the United States Trotting Association. He loved all sports especially football.

Vincent is survived by his wife of 53 years, Jean (Krakus) Messina.

He is also survived by two daughters, Denise (Charles) Hull of LeRoy, NY; Theresa (Steve) DiMarco of Rochester, NY; and one son, Dean (Patricia Orlando) Messina of Dunkirk, NY. He is the loving grandfather of Anthony Messina, Christopher Messina, Andrew Messina, Lucas Hull, Lauren Hull, Samantha Di Marco and Philip Messina. He is also survived by aunts and an uncle; cousins; along with many nieces; nephews; and great-nieces and great-nephews.

He is the brother of Charles (Patricia Tatarka) Messina and Paul (Sharon Mancuso) Messina.

A 10:30 AM Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday May 23, 2015 at Resurrection Parish (St. Mary’s) 18 Ellicott Street Batavia, New York 14020 where Vincent was a parishioner of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church. Memorials may be made to Development Department, Good Shepherd Hospice, 320 W. Main Street, Lakeland, FL 33815. Funeral arrangements were completed in Florida.
