Celia Grace Chilson

Batavia – Celia Grace Chilson, 97, of Batavia, passed away Monday, (May 25, 2015) at her daughter’s home, in Brockport, surrounded by her loving family.

Mrs. Chilson was born July 21, 1917 in Batavia.  She was one of 13 children born to the late Daniel and Edna (Spencer) Rich.

Celia enjoyed reading, vegetable and flower gardening and crocheting.  She often would sell her crochet creations at craft shows.

After her husband passed away in 1975, she remained very independent up until recently.  She loved to spend time with her family and would defend them fiercely as the need arose. 

She is the wife of the late William A. Chilson.

Surviving are her daughter, Deanna Chilson of Brockport, grandchildren, Joanne (Andrew) Greene-Blose of Penfield, David (Angela Salemi) Greene of Hilton, and Julia (Lou) Applebaum of Victor; great-grandchildren, Brittany and Ashlynn Blose, Benjamin and Hannah Applebaum; sisters, Alice (late George) Stokes of South Byron, Shirley (late Loren) Mowers of Bergen, and Doris (late LaVern) Boshart of Alden; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Rich of Gates, Lucille Rich of Batavia, and Ann Rich of Hilton.  Several nieces and nephews also survive.

She is preceded in death by her brothers, Charles (late Alberta) Rich, Harold Rich, Raymond (late Marjorie) Rich, Theodore Rich, and Paul Rich; sisters, Bertha (late Raymond) Stokes, Ida (late Martin) Raymond, Lillian (late Ervin) Say, and Marion Rich.

Friends may call on Wednesday (May 27, 2015) from 5 to 8 p.m. at H.E. Turner & Co., Inc., 51 South Lake Street, Bergen; where Celia’s Funeral Service will be at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, (May 28, 2015). Burial will be in Grand View Cemetery, Batavia.
