John "Jack" Harold Cook Jr.

John "Jack" Harold Cook Jr., 85, passed away Sunday July 26, 2015 after a brief illness at Brothers of Mercy in Clarence where he had resided for the last 3 years. John was born August 17, 1929 in Warsaw to the late John (Hazel) Cook. John was pre-deceased by his wife of 49 years, Natalie Austin Cook who died in 2007, twin brother James (Audrey) Cook; sister Norma (Russ) Watson; sister Elaine (Elwin) Glor; brother Henry (Elaine) Austin.

John graduated from Attica High School in 1948, where he lettered in varsity basketball.
After graduation he joined the Navy where he continued playing basketball and served on the ship The USS Orion (AS-18). He was stationed in Argencia, Newfoundland and traveled to Haiti, Puerto Rico and Cuba from 1950 to 1954.  He attained the rank of Seaman Third.John recently received his 55 year Legion member card which he proudly displayed in his room.
John was a long-time member of the Attica Golf club where he registered two hole in ones and was a 30+ year league bowler at Attica Lanes.  John was also a long time member of St Luke's church in Attica. John worked at Massy-Harris and at Rochester Products before beginning his career job as a mail carrier, first in a walking route and then as a rural carrier in Attica.  John truly loved that job and often said "I knew everyone on my route and they all knew me by name."  John retired in 1985.In his retirement John and his wife enjoyed spending time traveling and golfing with many close friends. One of his fondest memories was walking the Augusta National Golf course for a Masters Tournament practice round. John and his wife could also be spotted in the casino many afternoons at Batavia Downs.  He loved watching the Yankees and the Bills games and was an avid reader.  John also enjoyed flea marketing and yard sales in search of coins and stamps. John most loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He could not say enough good things about the nurses and aides at Brothers who took very special care of him.  John basked in all the love and attention he received

He is Survived by children John (Ann) Cook  of York, PA, Cindy (John) Dries of Batavia, Tom (Fran Sprague) Cook of Oakfield; grandchildren Jarod and Jessie Cook  of York, PA; sisters- in-law Louise (Ray) Wechsler of Quogue, NY, Jeanne (Frank) Fulton of Quitman, GA along with many nieces and nephews.

There will be no prior calling hours.  A Burial Mass will be held on Thursday, July 30th at 11am at St Luke's Church, 30 Favor Street, Attica New York 14011.
