Woody was a member of the ‘Greatest Generation’ having been a World War II naval veteran.  He enlisted in the Navy in 1942 and served in Iceland, England and France.  Shortly after the landing in Normandy he was sent to the Pacific where he served till after the Japanese surrender.  He spoke at different times about returning from Europe on the Queen Mary with 20,000 other troops and passing the Statue of Liberty in New York harbor.  “You could hear a pin drop.  No one said a word.”   But tears are silent.  After serving in the Pacific theater he was discharged in 1945.  He then returned to his home in Attica where he started his family. After the war, Woody first worked in the Family business at Clark’s Appliance and Delicatessen.  He was hired by Frigidaire Corp. in 1954 and worked as District Manager till his retirement in 1983.  Woody is a member of the American Legion and served as Chaplain for the Legion after World War II.  He is also an Exempt member of the Attica Fire Department.   As well as giving service to the Attica Landmark Society as past president and  the Attica Historical Society.  His life was for his family of 9 children whom he taught to care for others and to make others people’s lives better whenever they could. His last thoughts were of his family and his much loved wife.  “In a little while, surely you’ll be mine.  In a little while I’ll be there.  In a little while, this hurt will hurt no more.  I’ll be home love.”

He is survived by 9 children:  Jeffrey (Elizabeth) Clark, Mary Jo (John) Oldham, Kim (Nancy) Clark, Judy (Donald) Carpenter, Leland (Marianne) Clark, Janet (George) Klotzbach, Jane (Donald) Beechler, Mark (Alyce) Clark, James (Melissa) Clark; 19 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren
