Floyd L. Voorhees

Floyd L. Voorhees, age 90 of Silver Springs passed away on February 1, 2018 at the Wyoming County Community Hospital in Warsaw. He was born in Castile, New York on September 4, 1927 a son to the late Spencer and Margaret (Newcomb) Voorhees. Along with his parents he is preceded in death by the mother of his children: Mary Ellen Voorhees who passed away in 2011, siblings: Carolyn Streb, Dorothy Parmiley and Donald Voorhees.

Floyd was a 1946 graduate of Perry High School.  He was a self-employed dairy and crop farmer. At the age of 20 Floyd rented 50 acres to start his career in farming, in 1950 he bought the former Sowerby Farm in Silver Springs. He was a cutting-edge farmer having the first carousel milking parlor in the state and was one of the largest dairy farms in Wyoming County at that time. He was also a dealer for Cargill Seed Co. He was an active member of FFA in and after high school and was a past president in 1948. A member of the Castile Community Club and Wyoming County Farm Bureau. Mr. Voorhees lived and breathed farming. He enjoyed going to dances, playing euchre and bridge, traveling and spending time with his family.

He is survived by 2 daughters: Mary (David) Crockett of Nottinghoam, NH, Jane (Thomas Kowasz) Voorhees of Perry, son: Stephen Voorhees of Perry, 8 grandchildren: Katie Lucero, Rebecca (Bill) Thornhill-Crockett, Mark (Jessica Morey)Crockett, Matthew (Janelle) Hennard, Justin and Nathan Voorhees, Christen (Dan) Feiler and Zachary Kowasz, 4 great grandchildren: Gavin and Noah Hennard, Levi Voorhees and Jack Feiler, sister-in-law: Vivian V. Mason, along with many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends may call from 1:00-3:00PM on Saturday February 10, 2018 at Eaton-Watson Funeral Home, LLC. 98 North Main Street Perry, New York 14530 where Funeral Services will follow at 3:00PM at the Funeral Home. Visitation will continue Saturday evening from 6:00-8:00PM at the Funeral Home. He will be laid to rest in Prospect Hill Cemetery in Perry Center.
