Shirley M. Youll

Batavia - Shirley M. Youll, 87, of Batavia, passed away Wednesday, (April 25, 2018) at her home, in Batavia.

Mrs. Youll was born May 5, 1930 in Elba, a daughter of the late W. Lester and Bessie (Talbot) Gubb.

Shirley graduated with a bachelor’s degree in liberal arts from Beaver College, Pennsylvania.  She worked as a County Social Worker in Genesee County for 30 years prior to her retirement. 

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Batavia.  Along with her late husband were lifetime members of Godfrey's Pond. 

A very proper woman, she was a writer and enjoyed painting along with tending to her rose garden.  Shirley was an avid student of local history.  She enjoyed time spent with her family; especially family reunions with the Talbots, Gubbs, and Youlls. 

Shirley and Jim traveled extensively across the country in their Winnebago, but their time spent in Cape Cod or traveling with Art and Max was always most treasured. 

She was the wife of the late James J. Youll who died on September 16, 2014.

Shirley is survived by her daughter, Susan (Rev. Bill) Hockey of Batavia; and a sister-in-law, Yvonne (late Richard) Youll of Batavia.  Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Along with her husband, she is preceded in death by her brother, Art (late Maxine) Gubb.

Friends may call on Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. at H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 403 East Main St., Batavia.  Shirley’s Funeral Services will be at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, (May 1, 2018) at the First United Methodist Church, 8221 Lewiston Road, Batavia.  Memorials may be made to Homecare & Hospice, 29 Liberty Street, Suite #6, Batavia, NY 14020 or the First United Methodist Church, 8221 Lewiston Road, Batavia, NY 14020.  Burial will be in Maple Lawn Cemetery, Elba.
