James A. Boorom

Corfu/Byron - James A. Boorom, 96, of Corfu, formerly of Byron, a technical installer for Western Electric in Rochester, for 40 years prior to his retirement in 1983, died Friday, July 13, 2018 at Strong Memorial Hospital, in Rochester.

Mr. Boorom was born December 9, 1921 in Batavia, a son of the late Glen and Mildred (Mills) Boorom.

He was a 1941 graduate of Batavia High School and played on the Esso's a semi-pro football team in Batavia.  He served during World War II with the Army’s 243rd Battalion in France and Germany.

He was a member The Pioneers of America and the former Batavia Loyal Order of Moose.  He was an avid gardener and enjoyed yardwork.  He greatly loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. It is said that he was a man of many trades and was always willing to help others.

His wife, Lois A. (Ray) Boorom died January 21, 2013.

Survivors include a son, Michael Boorom of Batavia; 2 daughters, Denise Boorom of Rochester and Susan (Frank) Chittenden of Corfu; 5 grandchildren, Zachary (Sarah) Chittenden of Corfu, Cody (Ashley) Chittenden of MS, Wyatt Chittenden of TN, Madison Boorom and Emily Boorom, both of Rochester; a great-grandchild, Liam Chittenden; several nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by his wife, brothers, a sister and his great-grandchild Easton Chittenden.  

Friends may call on Tuesday from 10 am to 12 pm at H.E. Turner & Co, Inc., 403 East Main St., Batavia, where services will immediately follow at 12 p.m.  Burial will be in Grand View Cemetery in Batavia.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, P.O.
