Pulling into Alexander on Saturday we were greeted with the sign: "First home game in 30 years!" The Tri-town organization (http://tritowntrojans.com/) has brought back youth football -- and judging by the turn out, it is back to stay.

Four games were played against the Pembroke Dragons during the sunny and hot afternoon. There was a chicken barbecue that ran throughout the day, a concession stand with a large variety of baked goods and 50/50 raffles and a drawing for a game-worn Bills jersey.

The beginners saw Alexander scoring from Connor Scott, Mason Bump and Ricky Townley.

Scoring in the minis for Pembroke were: Adam Dulski (no extra point), Owen Mileham with a defensive touchdown, Garrett Totten with two TD's, and Alec Skeet adding an extra point.

The JV game saw touchdowns from Trent Smith, David Colby (2) and Jordan Brown for Pembroke.

The varsity game was a hard-fought battle between two huge teams. There was a little bit of everything in this game, which Pembroke won 20-7. The first score was Pembroke's Mike Natalzia who broke a tackle and took the ball most of the field and into the end zone. Kyle Ludwig kicked the extra point.

Second touchdown was a run by Dakota Dieter of the Dragons. The extra point kick was blocked by Zach Jasen, of Alexander. Alexander's touchdown came next, run in by Zach Jasen, and PJ Brennan added the extra point. Mike Natalzia put the game away in the fourth quarter with his second touchdown of the day. On Saturday the Tonawanda Valley Youth Ladies Fastpitch Softball League (TVYLFSL) hosted a Junior Division small ball softball tournament to benefit Crossroads House.

Four teams of 10-12-year-old girls participated, representing Batavia, Le Roy and Byron-Bergen.

Participants and their families were asked to bring donations from the Crossroad House wish list.

"Crossroads House is a comfort care home for those who have a terminal illness and have been medically determined to be in the last three months of life. Crossroads House is an alternative to a hospital or nursing home when care can no longer be provided in the patient's own home."

Le Roy 2 coached by Micky Hyde won the tournament. Tied in points going into the last game with Le Roy 1, Hyde's team scored a run in the last inning to pull off the win.

Santa took a break from his busy schedule to visit Alexander school tonight.

After reading two stories, it was time for Santa to hear what everyone wanted for Christmas.

Then everyone gathered in the cafeteria to frost and decorate cookies!

Sunday at Molasses Hill Bulk Foods, more than 20 neighborhood kids decorated their own gingerbread houses.

This is a tradition that Shannon Harder's mother used to do every Christmas with the kids in her neighborhood, and Shannon wanted to continue it at her new location.

Molasses Hill Bulk Foods is located at 466 Ellicott St. in Batavia.

Le Beau Salon and a host of others put on a carnival of beauty as a benefit for the Voltura family.

Nicole Voltura, a wife and mother of three, is dealing with not just one terminal illness, but three. She has recently undergone surgery to remove a sarcoma from her leg. On Oct. 7, she went for her fourth round of chemotherapy to treat two separate rare autoimmune diseases.

This benefit helped raise funds needed to offset some of the medical bills and to support the needs of her family.

Nicole is the owner of Glitz-n-Glamour Salon.

Among the many activities for the whole family were nail art, mini-manicures, hand facials, make-up technique sessions, bling hair extensions, eyebrow and lip waxing, blowouts, and face painting.

In addition, there was a Chinese auction, instruction in hip-hop dance techniques and a Zumba class.

On Friday and Saturday, the Alexander PTA presented its 25th annual production featurning fourth-, fifth- and sixth-graders in the Music Theatre International production of "Seussical Jr. -- The Musical."

Under the direction of Kathy Weil (Music Director Suzanne Perry, Choreographer Bethany Anderson) the children welcomed theater-goers to a colorful, fast-paced adventure.

We met Horton the Elephant and the cohabitants of this Seussical fantasy!

The night required only one thing...

Your imagination! ... or in Seuss's words: "the thinks you can think"!

On Friday, John Kennedy Elementary School hosted its annual Community Night.

Students and their families meet local law enforcement and emergency personnel -- and get to try out the sirens!

The event, sponsored by the John Kennedy Parent Group, brings representatives of local businesses and service organizations together with students and their families for a fun-filled evening of activities and information. It also serves as an opportunity for new students and their families to learn more about the school and the Batavia community.

Attendees enjoyed free pizza and ice cream, a Scholastic Book Fair, giveaways, face painting, games and other entertainments. More than 20 organizations participated, including Batavia Bulldawgs, Art Ah La Carte, GCASA (Genesee/Orleans Council on Alcoholism and Substance Abuse), and the Batavia police and fire departments, as well as local youth sports and after-school activities. Sponsors included Pauly's Pizza, Bob Harris Realty, and Summit Physical Therapy & Sportscare Center.  

Attendees get their faces painted, learn to dance, guess pumpkin weights, race and much more in the John Kennedy gymnasium.

The Scholastic Book Fair features story and activity books for all ages and reading levels.

The final games of another great season of Tri-Town Youth Athletics soccer were held on Monday night.

The Tri-Town Youth Athletics program was rejuvenated this year with the induction of new President Wade Smith and Vice President Lisa Lyons. The snack bar was always open, and fundraising helped offset rising costs allowing more families to participate than ever.

Capping off what was mostly a rain-free and fun-filled season was the traditional pizza party, this year sponsored by Breton Construction.

The Pembroke Corfu Darien Kiwanis Fall Festival and Car Cruise took place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 18 and held something for the whole family at Pembroke Town Park.

In addition to the great turn out of vehicles for the Car Cruise (more than 80 cars), there were vendors, non-profit groups, face-painting for the kids, pony rides, pumpkin patch carriage rides and a chicken barbecue by Krolick's.

Saturday, Sept. 17, was Kutter's annual Customer Appreciation Day.

Kutter's Cheese Factory Store began operations in 1923, when Leo Kutter emigrated to the United States from Germany. The factory moved to Corfu, site of this weekend's festivities, in 1947.  

Visitors were offered samples of Yancey's Fancy's 19 varieties of cheeses, available in 29 flavors.

Brian and Heather Bailey and Christine Adamczak, who bought Kutter's from Tony and Richard Kutter in 2009, were on hand to offer visitors wine and cheese samples. Musical entertainment was provided by Finesse (a female barbershop quartet), and there was a factory tour to explain the cheese-making process.

The company is looking to expand its operations in the next two years, and if the attendance at the festivities on Saturday were any indication, Genesee County is more than ready for the expansion.

September 10th at Batavia Downs was an exciting night.

Five local high school members competed for a cut of $7,500 in scholarship money. The race was sponsered by Harness Horse Breeders of New York, Western NY Harness Horsemen's Association, Batavia Downs Casino and Buffalo Raceway.
