D'Youville prof presents show on Erasmus of the Reformation Era at GCC

Genesee Community College's History Club is proud to welcome Jeffery Glodzik, Ph.D., associate professor of History at D'Youville College, on Wednesday, March 11, at 7 p.m. to present "Erasmus: The Most Important Figure in the Reformation Era?".

The famous Dutch humanist Erasmus of Rotterdam played perhaps the most important role in the intellectual world and the religious conflicts in the 16th century.

Community is welcome to honor ND Basketball Coach Mike Rapone on his 700th career win

Notre Dame Basketball Coach Mike Rapone will be honored for his 700th career win on Friday, Feb. 28, after the Boy's Quarter Final Sectional Game at Notre Dame.

The community, family and friends are invited to a celebratory reception right after the nighttime game in the gym. The game starts at 7 and is expected to last about an hour and 45 minutes.

Following the game, the gym will be quickly cleared and attendees will hear from a couple of speakers about the coach's impressive achievement. There will be a dessert bar for all the enjoy.

POSTPONED: 'Spay-ghetti Dinner' at Notre Dame to benefit shelter animals -- eat in or take out

Volunteers for Animals at the Genesee County Animal Shelter will host a "Spay-ghetti Dinner" in the Notre Dame High School cafeteria on Saturday, March 14.

Time is 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. -- eat in or take out.

Dinner includes spaghetti with homemade sauce and meatballs, salad, bread, cookies, and a beverage.

Tickets cost $10 each; $5 for children age 12 and under.

Pubic Hearing: Alabama Town Board to consider changing noise regulation for windmills, feedback wanted

The Alabama Town Board is considering a change in a section of the zoning law that, in effect, would make it more difficult for residents to complain about noise from windmills.

A public hearing is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. next Monday (Feb. 24) at the Town Hall on Judge Road to get feedback concerning the adoption of Proposed Local Law 2-2020 Town of Alabama Zoning Law Article IV Section 622, Part C7 Noise, amendment.

Demo of opaque watercolors at GO ART! with Albion artist

The Batavia Society of Artists is hosting artist Laura Kemler on Tuesday, March 10th from 7 to 9 p.m. at GO ART!/Seymour Place, 201 E. Main St., Batavia. She will be doing a demonstration on gouache -- an opaque watercolor.

Nonmembers welcome for a $5 fee.

Cornell Cooperative Extension of Genesee County Board of Directors meeting, public is welcome

The Cornell Cooperative Extension of Genesee County Board of Directors will meet at 5:30 p.m. on Feb. 27.

The meeting will be held at the Extension Center at 420 E. Main St. in Batavia and is open to the public.

Magic SandBox and health coach host Sock Hop for kids at Robert Morris School in Batavia

The Magic SandBox is holding a Sock Hop from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday (Feb. 21) for children age 4 to 12 at Robert Morris School, 80 Union St. in the City of Batavia.

Admission is $1 or any monetary donation.

Parental supervision is required. Enter the building from the rear parking lot or the bus loop and follow the signs to the multipurpose room.

The point is to get kids up and moving!

Crossroads House gets 10 percent of all sales, including takeout orders, at Batavia's Original Pizzeria

Batavia’s Original Pizzeria Restaurant is having a fundraiser on Wednesday, March 11 to benefit Crossroads House.

Kathy Ferrara and her fine staff will be cooking up a storm! Ten percent of all sales all day, including takeout orders, will be donated to Crossroads House.

Crossroads is a two-bed comfort care home on Liberty Street in Batavia. They have provided end-of-life care for more than 520 residents who have resided in Genesee, Wyoming, and surrounding counties, and no family has ever received a bill.

20th annual winter guard competition 'Fantasic Vision' at BHS

The Batavia City School District winter guard will host its 20th annual Fantastic Vision winter guard competition on Saturday, Feb. 15, in the Batavia High School gymnasium. Performances begin at 5:15 p.m.

Winter guard performances consist of choreographed dance moves that typically incorporate flags or prop rifles.

Representing a variety of cultures and denominations, these women hold one thing in common: they want to live like God is real.

POSTPONED: S. Shade Zajac, conductor for the Genesee Symphony Orchestra and a virtuosic cellist, will perform at a cello recital at 4 p.m. on Sunday, April 19th, in the sanctuary of the First Presbyterian Church, Batavia.
 
He has been preparing for this recital since this fall and he is very excited about the performance.

AUCTION ON FACEBOOK LIVE: Alexander Fire Department's annual Spring Gun Raffle

The Alexander Fire Deptartment is holding their Annual Spring Gun Raffle from 5 to 10 p.m. on Saturday, March 28 at their Recreation Hall at 10708 Alexander Road, Alexander.

The $20 ticket admits one person; food, beer, pop included.

The main ticket includes a total of 15 guns: eight rifles, four shotguns and two pistols, plus the Grand Prize -- a Barrett Firearms Model 99 Rifle .50 BMG w/bi-pod and case.  

There will be seven more guns included in floor raffles. The door prize is a DPMS Oracle NY SAFE Compliant Rifle .223/5.56.
