Kitchen fire reported at College Village

A kitchen fire is reported at College Village.

Batavia fire and Mercy EMS dispatched.

The call was first dispatched as an automatic alarm of fire. A minute later the dispatcher came on with "updated information" and said there is a confirmed kitchen fire, confirmed via the alarm company.

UPDATE 10:36 p.m.: Alexander's Fast Team dispatched to College Village.

UPDATE 10:38 p.m.: Security reports the fire may be out, but responding units asked to continue.

UPDATE 10:40 p.m.: Alexander can stand down.

Structure fire reported on Brick House Corners Drive, Pembroke

A structure fire is reported at 8705 Brick House Corners Drive, Pembroke. Pembroke and Indian Falls fire crews are responding, along with Mercy medics. A Sheriff's deputy on scene reports light smoke showing.

UPDATE 7:37 p.m.: Command has entered the building and it's "no longer smoking, investigating at this point."

UPDATE 7:55 p.m.: City Engine #12 also responded and is now returning to its station. The City's Fast Team, initially called into action, is told by Pembroke command to go back in service.

UPDATE 7:59 p.m.: The Pembroke assignment is back in service.

Fire rekindles at house on Roanoke Road, Stafford

Yesterday's house fire at 9418 Roanoke Road has rekindled and Stafford firefighters are called to respond.

UPDATE 2:27 p.m.: Le Roy fire is asked to respond with mutual aid for the rekindle.

UPDATE 2:50 p.m.: Responders report light smoke inside.

UPDATE 2:51 p.m.: A Pavilion fire crew is asked to stand by in their quarters.

House fire on Roanoke Road, Stafford

A structure fire is reported at 9464 9418 Roanoke Road in Stafford, at the corner of Westcott Road. The call has gone to a second alarm and fire crews and equipment from Stafford, Town of Batavia, Bethany, Le Roy, Pavilion and the city's Fast Team are responding.

UPDATE 1:42 p.m.: A second platoon is called to city fire station.

UPDATE 1:51 p.m.: The property at this location has had two fires in the past two or three years. The house was destroyed in one; the other burned the barn. Byron and South Byron fire are asked to stand by in Stafford's hall.

UPDATE 2:09 p.m.: Command reports the fire is knocked down; checking for extensions.

UPDATE 2:39 p.m.: Howard at the scene says there appears to be heavy smoke damage and holes had to be cut in the roof to fight the fire. The fire is believed to have been caused by an electrical problem.

UPDATE 5:38 p.m.: All Stafford units clearing the scene. The Stafford assignment is back in service.

Chimney fire reported on Ledge Road

A chimney fire is reported at 1084 Ledge Road, just east of the Reservation boundary line. Alabama fire is responding.

UPDATE 8:10 p.m.: Fire is out. Alabama assignment is back in service.

Smoke in basement of duplex on Ellsworth Avenue

Smoke is reported in the basement of a duplex at 111 Ellsworth Ave. City fire is reponding. The building has been evacuated. The location is between Columbia and Manhattan avenues.

UPDATE 11:57 a.m.: "Engine 11 on location with nothing showing."

Chimney fire reported on West Bergen Road

A working chimney fire is reported at 8029 W. Bergen Road. The location is between Selden and Randall roads. Le Roy fire and ambulance are responding along with Bergen fire.

UPDATE 10:44 p.m.: The fire is out. A code enforcement officer is on scene. Le Roy ambulance is back in service.

Structure fire reported on Main Road, Pembroke

Wires are reportedly burning inside the wall of a house at 182 Main Road, Pembroke. The city's fast team, Pembroke and Indian Falls fire departments are to respond along with East Pembroke.

UPDATE 10:37 a.m.: Fire police are to shut down traffic at Route 5 and Main Road.

UPDATE 11:45 a.m.: Fire is out. Remaining units are preparing to clear the scene. Road is reopened. National Grid is notified as well as the tenants, who were not home.

Smoke coming from chimney of vacant house in Le Roy

Smoke is reportedly coming from the chimney of an unoccupied house at 12 Pleasant St., Le Roy. A smoke alarm is also sounding. Le Roy fire is responding and a ladder truck from Bergen is also called in.

Fire reported inside residence on Olyn Avenue

An oxygen tank is reportedly on fire inside a residence at 4 Olyn Ave. City firefighters are responding. A neighbor called dispatch after the occupants ran out of the house screaming. "I don't know what you're going to find," said the dispatcher.

UPDATE 1:31 p.m.: Engine 11 on location and crew reports nothing showing.

Smoke in basement of structure on Lockport Road, Oakfield

Smoke is reported in the basement of a structure at 2719 Lockport Road. Oakfield fire is responding, along with mutual aid from Alabama. Town is Batavia fire is asked to fill in at the Oakfield Fire Hall. The location is Allied Electric Co., located between Bliss and Lewiston roads.

UPDATE 8 p.m.: Command says responders can proceed non-emergency.

Genesee County firefighters working a house fire in Middlebury

Several Genesee County fire departments are helping fight a fully involved house fire on Kingsley Road in the Town of Middlebury, which is in Wyoming County. The house is at 566 Kingsley Road.

Bethany, Pavilion and Le Roy are called to the scene, along with a tanker from Alexander. An engine from Alexander is requested to fill in at Bethany's hall. York is asked to fill in at Pavilion. Bergen is asked to stand by in its quarters. Bethany is requested to send an ambulance to the scene.

Garage fire reported on Cone Street

A garage fire with flames showing is reported at 28 2A Cone St. in the city. The location is between Jackson Street and Garfield Avenue. City firefighters are at the scene.

UPDATE 3:40 p.m.: This is a shed fire. Heavy smoke is pouring from its roof. The third platoon is called to stand by in city headquarters.

UPDATE 3:41 p.m.: Command says the fire is under control and they are overhauling the site.

UPDATE: Fire officials say the blaze was started by hot coals, discarded from the house fire, being deposited too close to the shed.

Barn fire reported on Watson Road, Elba

A barn fire at 5327 Watson Road, Elba, is under control.

The fire was reported about 30 minutes ago.

Elba fire was dispatched along with Barre, Stafford, Bergen, Byron, South Byron and Oakfield.

The location is CY Heifer Farms.

UPDATE 7:49 a.m.: The particular barn with the fire is leased to Provitello Farms. All 58 calves were safely moved from the barn to another one. The fire was electrical and contained to a small room behind the calves' stalls. The preliminary cause is believed to be mice chewing on wires. An employee saw the smoke upon arriving for work and called 9-1-1. The fire was quickly knocked down. All units are packing up and returning to service.  

Smoke coming from walls of mobile home on Alexander Road

Smoke is reportedly coming from the walls of a mobile home at 9132 Alexander Road. Town of Batavia fire is responding.

UPDATE 6:48 p.m.: A responder on scene confirms "structure fire in the walls." The location is between Pike and Rose roads.

UPDATE 6:57 p.m.: A code enforcement officer is called to the scene.

UPDATE 7 p.m.: Oakfield is called to fill in at Town of Batavia's fire station.

UPDATE 7:05 p.m.: Traffic is backed up. They are going to alternate the traffic flow. The homeowner is safe and inside a vehicle.

UPDATE 7:07 p.m.: The fire is out and they are beginning overhaul.

 

Working barn fire on East Road in Bethany

A working barn fire is confirmed at 10628 East Road, south of Route 20 in Bethany. Pigs are reportedly inside of it. Bethany fire is responding, along with Alexander, the city's Fast Team, Pavilion, Stafford and Wyoming. Town of Batavia Fire is to fill in at Bethany Fire Hall.

UPDATE 6:47 a.m.: Darien fire is asked to fill in at Alexander Fire Hall.

UPDATE 7:18 a.m.: East Pembroke is asked to fill in at Bethany Fire Hall.

UPDATE 7:30 a.m.: The command chief says "most of the pigs got out." The barn itself was "on the ground" by the time fire crews arrived.

UPDATE 7:52 a.m.: South Byron is requested to fill in at Stafford Fire Hall.

UPDATE 1:50 p.m.: The farm is owned by David and Rebecca Orr. There were three adults and from nine to 11 piglets lost in the fire.  At least nine pigs were saved. The fire is still under investigation, but Emergency Management Coordinator said investigators are looking at the heat lamps used to keep the piglets warm.

Five Genesee County fire departments called to house fire in Town of Covington

Five Genesee County fire departments are responding, mutual aid, to the Town of Covington in Wyoming County for a working structure fire with a person still inside the residence. The location is 864 Perry Road. In addition to Covington fire, responders requested include Le Roy, Pavilion, Bethany, Stafford and the City of Batavia Fast Team.

UPDATE 5:28 a.m.: The person inside got out safely. The fire is out. The assignment is back in service. The resident told firefighters he normally throws debris from his heat stove outside his back door, and did so this time but forgot about a wooden pallet he put there. It caught fire and smoke came up through the back porch into the house, waking the resident. The fire burnt a portion of the back porch.

Structure fire reported on South Main Street, Village of Oakfield

A working structure fire is reported at 102 S. Main St. in the Village of Oakfield. Oakfield fire is responding along with Town of Batavia and the city's Fast Team. East Pembroke is asked to fill in at Oakfield's hall.

UPDATE 9:51 p.m.: Fire police are requested to shut down traffic at Route 63 and Fisher Road, and in the Village at Route 63 and South Pearl Street.

UPDATE 9:59 p.m.: Elba's firefighting "Cascade" is called in.

UPDATE 10:25 p.m.: National Grid has been notified. Command reports the blaze is under control.

UPDATE 10:34 p.m.: One code enforcement officer is on scene and a second one is contacted to respond.

UPDATE 11:25 p.m.: Roadway being reopened.

Chimney fire report on Ridge Road, Elba

A working chimney fire is reported 4136 Ridge Road.

Elba fire and Oakfield fire were dispatched initially.

A second tone out includes Bergen and Byron with Town of Batavia to fill in at Elba.

A chief on scene reports heavy smoke.

The residence has been evacuated.

UPDATE 9:37 p.m.: A firefighter requests a chainsaw and a thermal camera.

UPDATE 10:07 p.m.: Fire contained to chimney. Firefighters starting overhaul.
