A brush fire is reported behind 37 Gibson St. in Bergen. Bergen Fire Department is responding.

Mulch fire behind store on Veterans Memorial Drive, Batavia

A mulch fire is reported behind the Radio Shack store at 4234 Veterans Memorial Drive. Town of Batavia Fire Department is responding.

UPDATE 3:38 p.m.: The fire is out. Town of Batavia is back in service.

Grass fire on Colby Road in Corfu

A grass fire is reported at 9286 Colby Road. It is near a structure and there's an abandoned car nearby as well. This is the Reed's residence. Corfu Fire Department is responding and a person on scene says there's some smoke showing but the problem "doesn't look too big."

UPDATE 3:09 p.m.: Apparently, they've extinguished the fire because they told a firefighter calling to check on their status that they were "packing up the hose now."

UPDATE 3:16 p.m.: Corfu is back in service.

Small grass fire reported off Cedar Street, Batavia

City Fire Department is being dispatched to the CSX tracks just west of Cedar Street for the report of a small grass fire.

The location is mile post 402.

UPDATE 2:05 p.m.: City fire requests confirmation of notification of CSX because of limited visibility for westbound trains. There is currently a westbound train in the area.

UPDATE 2:12 p.m.: CSX is slowing trains to 30 mph in both directions. If city fire wishes them slowed more or stopped, dispatch can put in the request.

UPDATE 2:30 p.m.: Fire is contained.

Vehicle on fire in field off Route 77, Alabama

A vehicle fire is reported on Route 77 near Bloomingdale and Judge roads. It's in a field on the east side of the roadway. Alabama Fire Department is responding.

UPDATE 5:53 p.m.: A possible field fire is reported as a result of the vehicle fire.

UPDATE 5:54 p.m.: The fire chief on scene says the vehicle fire is fully involved and the field is also on fire.

UPDATE 5:58 p.m.: Fire police are requested to the scene for traffic control.

UPDATE 6:07 p.m.: The fire is under control, but some small blazes have cropped up nearby. More manpower is requested and law enforcement is also responding.

UPDATE 6:12 p.m.: All fire is out.

UPDATE 6:29 p.m.: Alabama is back in service.

Grease fire reported in kitchen on Highland Avenue

A grease fire is reported in the kitchen at 16 Highland Ave. in the City of Batavia. The residence has been evacuated. But the city fire department is on scene and reports nothing is showing.

UPDATE 2:32 p.m.: The fire was contained to a pot on the stove and it's now out. The home is being ventilated.

UPDATE 3 p.m.: All units clear of 16 Highland. City Fire back in service.

Garage fire reported in Pavilion

A confirmed garage fire is reported at 7658 Telephone Road (Route 20) in Pavilion.

Pavilion Fire along with Le Roy Fire responding. Stafford is on standby.

UPDATE 2:11 p.m.: Chief on scene reports garbage fire next to the garage, but not into the garage yet.

UPDATE 2:14 p.m.: Responding departments include (but not limited to): Perry, York, Wyoming, Alexander and Bethany.  Also Engine 12 of City Fire is responding to something, possibly this, which would constitute the Fast Team, with Fourth Platoon requested to fill in at City Station.

UPDATE 2:20 p.m.: The fire has been knocked down.

UPDATE 2:40 p.m.: Engine 12 back in the city. Le Roy, along with several other responding companies, back in service.

UPDATE 2:58 p.m.: Pavilion back in service.

Shed fire on Lewiston Road, Alabama

A shed fire is reported at 2082 Lewiston Road near Knowlesville Road. Alabama Fire Department is responding. Oakfield Fire Department is called to stand by in its hall.

UPDATE 12:19 p.m.: According to the National Weather Service, there's an elevated fire risk today "due to a combination of dry air, lingering vegetation from last year" and moderate northwest winds. (Also, tonight there's a freeze likely, with temperatures expected to be 25 to 30 degrees.)

UPDATE 12:23 p.m.: Alabama Engine 2 is on scene "with a working shed fire."

UPDATE 12:24 p.m.: Alabama engines 1 and 5 are on scene.

UPDATE 12:26 p.m.: Oakfield is told to stand down.

UPDATE 12:29 p.m.: The fire is extinguished and they are now doing overhaul.

UPDATE 12:56 p.m.: Alabama is back in service.

Possible grass fire off Lehigh Avenue, Batavia

A possible grass fire is reported at 480 Lehigh Ave. in Batavia, "behind the water plant." City firefighters are responding.

Report of 'thick, black smoke' near Alexander and Dodgeson roads, Alexander

Alexander Fire Department is responding to investigate a report of thick, black smoke in the area of Alexander and Dodgeson roads.

UPDATE 11:42 a.m.: The location is "the old Post Farm." The fireman on scene says "He's burning tires."

UPDATE 11:56 a.m.: The fire is out.

UPDATE 12:05 p.m.: Engine #7 is back in service. The location was determined to be 9568 Route 98.

UPDATE 12:17 p.m.: A representative of the New York Department of Environmental Conservation is now on scene to investigate the incident.

Weather service warns of dry conditions, fire danger in the region

Very dry conditions across Western New York are expected to last through early this evening and the National Weather Service is asking area residents to adhere to all local burn bans.

There is low relative humidity this afternoon of between 15 and 25 percent.

Winds, however, remain generally light and "well below red flag warning criteria."

Brush fire off North Bergen Road

A brush fire is reported just east of 6385 N. Byron Road. Bryon and South Byron fire departments are dispatched. The location is between Route 237 and Bird Road.

UPDATE 1:54 p.m.: All responding units are back in service. We believe this was a controlled burn that the firefighters extinguished. We heard that they had talked with the property owner, which we take to mean they informed the person about opening burn regulations.

Stafford Fire Department putting out an apparent controlled burn on Prentice Road

Stafford Fire Department is extinguishing an apparent controlled burn at 6505 Prentice Road, Le Roy.

A first responder reported, "It looks like somebody went to lunch," and reported finding a can of oil, matches and a rake.

The call came in as a grass fire. First responders reported finding a hedgerow fire.

A chief informs dispatch that the homeowner has been advised of the open burn law.

UPDATE 1:29 p.m.: A chief tells dispatch, "The homeowner is arguing with us that agriculture is exempt from burning laws." The fire is out except for a couple of smoldering spots. Stafford is back in service.

Grass fire reported on Lewiston Road, Alabama

A grass fire is reported at 2408 Lewiston Road. Alabama Fire Department is responding. The location is between Lockport and Knowlesville roads.

UPDATE 3:57 p.m.: East Pembroke Fire Department's grass truck is requested to the scene.

UPDATE 4:05 p.m.: Manpower and an engine out of Oakfield are requested. Also, they have called for mutual aid from Wolcottsville, in Niagara County. "It's up into the woods pretty good," says a firefighter at the scene.

UPDATE 4:08 p.m.: Some of the flames are heading toward a barn. "All the fire is up at the west end here." In one section, as soon as a firefighter beats down the flames, they are said to come back twice as big.

UPDATE 4:20 p.m.: They seem to be making progress on fighting the blaze and it is contained in some places. They are going to concentrate on the north edge of the fire now.

UPDATE 4:23 p.m.: Some firefighters say they are "all set" and they are going to start picking up their water lines. But there's still a 7- to 8-foot swath of fire that's moving northward. 

UPDATE 4:27 p.m.: "The fire's been extinguished." They are checking the perimeter one last time.

UPDATE 4:45 p.m.: A fire engine from Elba also responded and is now back in service.

UPDATE 4:52 p.m.: Wolcottsville responders are thanked and released from the assignment. Others at the scene are filling up tanks and otherwise breaking down and preparing to leave.

Pickup ablaze in parking lot of Richmond library in Batavia

A vehicle fire is reported in the parking lot of Richmond Memorial Library in the City of Batavia. It is located at 19 Ross St. City firefighters are responding.

UPDATE 12:07 p.m.: The fire is out. City fire is back in service.

Fire engulfs willow tree on Maltby Road

A brush fire was reported at 3692 Maltby Road in Oakfield. But now it's contained to a willow tree. Oakfield firefighters are on scene. The location is in between Fisher and Weatherwax roads. Responders are proceeding in non-emergency mode.

UPDATE 5 p.m.: The fire is out. Oakfield is back in service.

Grass fire reported on Asbury Road, Le Roy

A caller reports seeing flames and smoke in the area of 8993 Asbury Road.

A chief already on seen reports a possible large controlled burn at a property on East Main Road.

Le Roy firefighters will respond and put out the fire.

UPDATE 2:54 p.m.: A homeowner on East Main Road was advised of the open burn law and the fire department will put out the fire.

UPDATE 3:56 p.m.: The hydrant used at this incident now won't shut off. Monroe County Water notified. A chief reports it's cause a bit of a traffic problem on Route 5.

Second time tonight, report of smoke in the area of Jackson Avenue

For the second time tonight, a caller is reporting smoke in the area of Jackson Avenue, between South Jackson Street and Oakland Avenue in the city.

Earlier, the cause of the smoke was apparently a small controlled burn of grass and leaves at a location on Creek Road.

City fire's Engine 12 is responding non-emergency.

UPDATE 11:32 p.m.: City command believes it's smoke lingering from the earlier incident. City fire back in service.

Smoke reported in the area of Jackson Avenue, Batavia

A caller reports smelling smoke in the area of Jackson Avenue, Batavia.

The smoke reportedly smells like grass burning.

City Fire Department is responding and the first unit on scene reports smoke in the area. Engine 12 is heading further down South Jackson Avenue, "It appears heavier down that way."

The wind is out of the southwest at two mph.

UPDATE 9:36 p.m.: A unit is going to head down Lehigh Avenue and see if anything is coming from the other side of the creek.

UPDATE 9:45 p.m.: The source appears to be out on Creek Road, Town of Batavia.

UPDATE 9:50 p.m.: A small grass and leaf fire with a circumference of 10 feet has been located. City fire is putting it out with a can. The Town of Batavia chief is being notified that city firefighters are putting out a fire in the town's district. Engine 12 is back in service.

UPDATE 9:55 p.m.: Ladder 15 back in service.

Grass fire out of control on South Lake Road, Pembroke

A grass fire is burning out of control and approaching a structure at 8959 S. Lake Road in Pembroke. Pembroke and Indian Falls fire departments are responding. The location is between Scribner and Cohocton roads.

UPDATE 3:23 p.m.: The fire is now under control.

UPDATE 3:36 p.m.: The fire is out. All fire units are back in service.
