The U.S. Department of Agriculture announced today that the Town of Byron will receive $924,000 in loan funding and $756,000 in grant funding for their Water Improvement Area #1 project, which will extend public water service to nearly 200 residents throughout the town.

The loan and grant are part of a $70 million project to improve critical rural infrastructure in New York.

With the release of these funds, the USDA is supporting 24 infrastructure projects in the state.

The investments we are announcing today will drive the creation of good-paying union jobs and grow the economy sustainably and equitably so that everyone gets ahead for decades to come.”

The City of Batavia Water Department is investigating a water break on Thomas Ave just north of Main Street. The street will be closed to all traffic while the repairs are taking place

Residents on Thomas Ave should expect the possibility of the water being turned off. We will do our best to keep this to a minimum. Work should be completed by 3:00 PM.

There is a possibility of discolored water; laundry should be avoided if possible.

The Hundredmark Road Bridge, at the intersection of Spoil Bank Road, will be closing on Sep. 7 for a bridge replacement project. This project is expected to take three months. During this time the road will not be passable to regular traffic or emergency vehicles. A detour will be posted.

Due to a recent bridge inspection, the Colby Road Bridge over the Murder Creek in the Town of Pembroke will need to be closed to all traffic immediately until further notice.  The bridge is located just south of the CSX Railroad Tracks that run alongside NYS Route 33.

Genesee County will be assessing the bridge condition and we will reopen the bridge as soon as it is safe to do so.

The City of Batavia Water Department will be making repairs to a water main on Williams Street on Friday July 30. The water will be shut off the length of Williams street starting at around 8:30; we plan to have it restored by 3:00.

This may cause discolored water in the general area, please refrain from doing laundry until the water is clear.

The City of Batavia Water Department is going to be repairing a water line in front of 13 Holland Ave. today. The street will be closed to through traffic including emergency vehicles. Work began about 8 a.m. and should be completed by 3 p.m.

Residents are asked to find alternative routes.

South Main Street Road near the Wortendyke Road intersection in the Town of Batavia will be closed beginning Monday, July 12^th for a culvert replacement project.

The project will take approximately eight weeks to complete, and that portion of the road will not be passable to traffic or emergency vehicles during that time. 

The public will be notified again once the road is reopened.

The City of Batavia Water Department is going to be repairing a water line at 10 Vernon Ave. at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, June 23. The repair will require the road to be shut down for through traffic. 

This will include emergency vehicles.

The road should be open by 3 p.m.

The City of Batavia Water Dept. is responding to a water main break at the corner of South Swan and Sumner streets.

The water will be shut off on South Swan from Ellicott to Hutchins, and on Hutchins from South Swan to Hutchins. It will be off from approximately 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Water in the surrounding area may become discolored. Please refrain from doing laundry during this time period.

Here are updates for construction and road work that will be happening in Genesee County in the next few weeks.

• The Tower Hill Road Bridge west of Searls Road in Byron will be closing June 1 for a bridge replacement project. This project is expected to take three and a half months. The road will not be passable to regular traffic or emergency vehicles.
• The County Highway Department will be doing work on June 1^st and June 2^nd on Swamp Road in Bergen between West Sweden Road and the Village line. The road will be closed during the day and reopened at night.
• On June 3^nd and 4^th the Highway Department will be doing work on Cook Road in Pavilion between Route 63 and Route 20. The road will be closed during the day and reopened at night.

Meadville Road between Lewiston Road and Owen Road in the Town of Alabama will be closed beginning Monday, May 24^th  through approximately Aug. 30^th, for a bridge replacement project.

The road will not be passable to regular traffic or emergency vehicles.

The public will be notified when it reopens.

From Genesee County Highway Department:

North Bergen Road between Merrill Road and Bird Road in Byron will be closed effective immediately for approximately two weeks for bridge repair work. It will not be open to local traffic.

The City Water Department has to do an emergency water shut-off on Wednesday, May 12.

The water will be shut on Ellicott Street from Liberty to Swan, Hutchins from Ellicott to Sumner, Goade, and Hyde Park. This will start at 7:30 a.m. and water will be off until 12 p.m.

The New York State Department of Transportation is advising motorists that the bridge carrying Route 19 over the Black Creek overflow in the Town of Bergen, Genesee County, will be closed to traffic for approximately two days, beginning today, May 11, from 7 a.m. to accommodate repairs to the structure.

During this time, a signed detour will be in place guiding motorists to use Route 33, North Main Street in Churchville, and Peachey Road/Kendall Road. Local roads near the bridge will also be accessible during the closure.

Motorists are reminded that fines are doubled for speeding in a work zone. In accordance with the Work Zone Safety Act of 2005, convictions of two or more speeding violations in a work zone could result in the suspension of an individual’s driver’s license.

From Bill Davis, city superintendent of Water and Wastewater:

The City of Batavia has contracted a water service replacement project on Swan, Hutchins and Otis streets starting on Monday May 3. This will run until approximately July 15.

During the project, these streets will open to local traffic only from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m. and will have parking restrictions that will vary day to day. Temporary "No Parking" signs will be posted in the areas affected each day.

The contractors will do their best to keep driveways open and traffic flowing.

Residents in the area will be notified ahead of time if the contractor will redo their water service, so they can make arrangements as needed.

We appreciate the patience and cooperation from the residents in the area.

Brown's Mill Road at the West Bethany Road intersection, on the border of Alexander and West Bethany, is closed for approximately two weeks for a culvert replacement project.

This work will not affect traffic on West Bethany Road.
