Genesee County Park announces upcoming walks and programs

Come enjoy the spring season at the Genesee County Park and Forest! Join us this March, April, and May for a variety of walks, hikes, and environmental education programs.

Programs include:

  • Saturday, March 23 - Amphibian Adventure
  • Saturday, April 6 - Eclipse Stories, Myths, and Science Walk
  • Sunday, April 7 - GeneSEEtheEclipse Story Time and Craft
  • Sunday, April 7 - Springtime Woods Walk
  • Monday, April 8 - Exploring the Eclipse at the Genesee County Park
  • Saturday, April 13 and May 4 - Guided Dog Walks
  • Saturday, April 13 - Indoor Lecture: Stewardship at Home
  • Wednesday, April 17, April 24 and May 8 - Migration Morning Walks
  • Saturday, April 20 - Earth Day Spring Sweep Cleanup at DeWitt Recreation Area (Free)
  • Saturday, May 18 - Genesee Valley Birding Cup (Free)
  • Saturday, May 25 - Full Moon Owl Prowl

Walks are led by a guide who takes you through forest, meadow, and wetland habitats. Each will explore a different topic. Walks are approximately 1 - 2 miles long over easy terrain and are family-friendly.

Tea with Samantha at Woodward Memorial Library

Saturday, June 1, 2013 from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m.

Parents can come with their children to meet Samantha and see her Victorian mansion.  The Dollhouse Lady will bring a real miniature Victorian  house and "artifacts" from the era.

Enjoy tea and light refreshments.

This program is for children in Kindergarten through Grade 6 and a parent.  Registration is required.

Homemade Wine Making at Woodward Memorial Library

Board Game Night at Woodward Memorial Library

Ghost Ships of Lake Ontario at Woodward Memorial Library

Wednesday, August 17th from 7-8:30 pm. Dressed as a period sailor, Jim Fischer, historian, marine consultant and storyteller will tell the unique story of The Hamilton and Scourge. Two merchant ships which were pressed into service for the American Navy just prior to the War of 1812. Both vessels foundered in Lake Ontario during a sudden squall on August 8, 1813, and still lie perfectly preserved at the bottom of Lake Ontario off Canadian Shores.

"Preschool Storytime" at Woodward Memorial Library

Tuesdays, April 5 - May 24, 6:30-7:00 p.m. or  Thursdays, April 7 - May 26, 10:30 a.m.- 11:00 a.m. This is a six week program designed for 3, 4, and 5 year olds. Hear stories, sing songs, and coloring. Limit of 15 children. Register by calling 585-768-8300.

"African Drumming" at Woodward Memorial Library

On Thursday, March 24 from 7:00-8:00 p.m. we will start a four session adult program hosted by Katie Selig. You will experience the tradition of music in West Africa through authentic instruments. The next sessions will continue, April 28, May 26, and June 30. You may attend one or all of the sessions. Registration is required and there is a $3.00 fee per session. Please call 585-768-8300.

"Intro to Facebook" at Woodward Memorial Library

Holland Land Office Museum Anounces 2009 Summer Program for Kids Lineup

The Holland Land Office Museum is proud to announce the line up for the 2009 Summer Program. The program, for children 7 to 13 years old, consists of sixteen different sessions based on local history. The program is sponsored by The Bank of Castile and the Kiwanis Club of Batavia.
