Car vs. pedestrian accident in the city with serious injuries

posted by Billie Owens in batavia, accident.

A car has struck a pedestrian at East Main and Elm streets in the City of Batavia. Injuries are serious. The fire department and Mercy medics are responding. Mercy Flight out of Buffalo has been notified and will be responding.

UPDATE 9:17 p.m.: Mercy Squad #2 is en route to the Genesee County Airport with a patient on board for Mercy Flight to transport.

UPDATE 9:32 p.m.: Mercy Flight is airborne and headed to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester.

UPDATE 9:57 p.m.: Statements from witnesses indicate the woman who was struck, whose name has not been released yet, may have been trying to get hit by a car. Gretchen Hawley, who was sitting on the patio of a nearby restaurant with her father, Ted Hawley, said she saw the woman dart out into traffic as a car was heading west with a green light. The car managed to stop before hitting the woman. The woman then went back to the sidewalk and waited a while then with a green light for westbound traffic and a small black sedan approaching, the woman ran into the street again. "She went out in the street and then sped up to get in front of the car," Gretchen said. Ted added, "It was totally deliberate." Police confirmed that other witnesses told consistent stories. The driver of the car was shaken up, but not injured. The woman said she was "hurting all over" and transported to Strong by Mercy Flight as a precaution. It's unknown if she has any internal injuries. She was conscious and alert at the time of transport.

UPDATE: The victim has been identified as a 49-year-old woman from Le Roy, but her name is not being released at this time. Her medical condition is not known at this time.

That's an odd way to get attention

It's just a ploy to get drugs and hopefully some money. At least it will help the citizens of Batavia identify another scumbag ambulance chasing lawyer, because someone will surely take her case. You can bet on that.

I can remember, years ago, when a teenage boy was slightly injured after being hit by an car. He was admitted to the hospital for observation and released the following day. Three months later, the same boy was hit by another car. Same routine, admitted and released. It took a third time for those in charge realized that there was a pattern. The boy loved the ambulance ride; the attention; and the one on one care he received each time he was hit. When I read the story, this morning, it brought back memories of that boy. I know he went into treatment, but I wonder where he is now and if he is okay.

True story: In 1957 I ran home from Kindergarten at Robert Morris Elementary, for lunch, to my home on North Lyon Street and I never wanted to go back. As I ran around the snowbank I can still see my mother standing on the front porch in her bathrobe. Then the car hit me and in my memory it ran over me, although the facts say it didn't. My mom said she would buy me a milkshake at Genesee Memorial Hospital but then she didn't. But, I didn't try to get hit for the milkshake.

I think there were 2 "victims" in this situation. One is the driver of the car, and I hope (s)he is doing o.k. The other victim would be Gretchen Hawley, who witnessed this person purposely running into a moving vehicle. Nobody would want those visions running through their head over and over. So the woman said she was "hurting all over"? Well, what did you expect, that it would feel great? Get some mental help, seriously

Oh wow, George! And what flavor of milkshake would have been your preference? :o) Seriously though, it sounds like it was a close call for you. And you're ok! I remember my two brothers and I missing the bus a few times. My mom (very mad and hollering her curler head off), got us into the woody station wagon and CHASED the bus down for us to get on. (Oh yea, she was in her bathrobe, too.) We tried really hard after that NOT to miss the bus. Sheesh.

Ms. Corona, however, is not a 49-year-old from Le Roy.

I wonder if any of you having fun at this woman's expense are even the least bit contrite given her now-successful attempt at suicide.

I hope those of you turning this very sad event into a joke for your own personal enjoyment, feel the least bit ashamed after hearing of her recent and successful suicide attempt. You should feel that at the very least!

Rob, we feel bad for her family, having a little compassion never hurt anyone, nor will it produce insomnia.

Rob, your comment was phrased completely differently and constituted a direct attack. While I didn't like seeing Corona's name getting dragged out yet one more time (the joke is tired), Billie addressed it in a factual manner before I saw the comment, so didn't feel compelled to delete it. If I'd seen it first, I might have. Not that I owe you an explanation. Good response, Frank.

my comment wasnt really phrased all that different. whatever helps you sleep at night mr journalist nazi. when this site flops you really do have a glowing career waiting for you at the fcc. just because some people on here feel bad for her and her family that doesnt dictate that i should feel bad as well. its a matter of opinion. if i want to crack a harmless joke its called freedom of speech. doesnt make me a bad person. that makes me an american. it also doesnt make me right or wrong or CM right or wrong or you right or wrong or frank right or wrong because again, we all have different opinions. which you can then censor (and you do just because you can) because this is indeed your site. why dont you tell everyone on here how you harrass batavian users on facebook after you delete their batavian accounts too? i have proof for that one. you know who im talking about. pretty good friend of mine. speaking of that dont bother messaging me on facebook. you can email me directly at [email protected]. youre just not the know it all golden boy you portray yourself as. you know what other joke it "tired?" (way to be hip buddy) ewoks. just sayin.

Rob, there are innumerable web sites where you can say whatever you want. You can also set up your own blog for free at blogger.com or wordpress.com or one several other sites. You can also say whatever you want on your own Twitter account, Facebook account or Tumblr account. Nothing I do here limits your freedom of speech one whit. Meanwhile, the First Amendment gives me an absolute right to run this site as I see fit. I will do (to the best of my ability and with some admittedly inconsistencies) what I think is best for my business. Remember, it is my business, and no matter what you think of how and when it might flop (I remember hearing quite a lot that I would be out of business in three months or six months ... oh, more than two years ago), it's still my business. I'm quite willing to risk losing you as a reader to do what I think is best for the majority of the readers.
