By Billie Owens

Community Action of Orleans & Genesee is again offering Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) to help those with low to moderate income with their tax preparation and filing.

Taxes are due April 15. Free federal and state tax preparation, including free electronic-filing assistance, is available through April 14. All ages and all surrounding counties are welcome.

Appointments required. Appointments start at 9 a.m. and go to 4 p.m. at the locations listed below:

  • Monday and Wednesday: Batavia Senior Center, 2 Bank St.; call 343-1611 for appointment
  • Tuesdays: The Greens of Le Roy; call 768-2740 for appointment
  • Thursdays: Community Action Center, 5073 Clinton Street Road, Batavia, call 343-7798, ext. 16, for appointment

Due to identity theft, the IRS requires Social Security cards for all names on the return and picture ID of those signing the return. Clients need to arrive 15 minutes before the appointment to fill our required intake sheet from the IRS. Taxpayers should bring all 2015 tax forms and last year's return.
