Gas tank falls off vehicle on Summit Street

A gas tank has fallen off a vehicle and is leaking in the roadway on Summit Street, near North Street.

Batavia City Fire Department is responding.

Dan's Tire is en route with a flatbed tow truck.

UPDATE 8:17 p.m.: City fire crew is returning to quarters.

LOL Jt arent bumps supposed to added to the surface and project above it?

All I have seen is missing materials and holes. I think a couple of those 2 seater mini cars disappeared on Swan St yesterday.

Timothy, it isn't always the condition of the vehicle. I know someone that had a new gas tank installed many years ago. Miles down the road after leaving the mechanic, off comes the tank, laying in the middle of Rte 63...mechanics fault. Maybe the person in this article did negligently let their car fall apart, but there is also the chance that it happened with no knowledge to the driver.

In this section of the country, broken gas tank straps are common. The salt eats away at anything made of metal. I had one break last year on my 10 year old truck. Most people don't check under their vehicles on a regular bases. Mechanics generally check this out during the yearly inspection.
