Hawley decries Assembly Majority vote to block college aid for vets' families

By Billie Owens

Press release:

New York City politicians on the Assembly’s Higher Education Committee have voted to block legislation, introduced by Assemblyman Steve Hawley (R,C,I-Batavia), offering discounted college tuition, room and board for the dependents of New York military service members who have died in the line of duty.

The measure, supported by both Democrats and Republicans, would apply to students attending SUNY or CUNY institutions.

“Downstate politicians have no shame in throwing tax dollars at illegal aliens for their college expenses, but when it comes to family members of our nation’s heroes they turn their backs and vote no,” Hawley said. “The priorities of the Assembly Majority become more confusing and hypocritical by the day and to turn their backs on our veterans is disgraceful.

“It’s truly a disservice to this state and, most importantly, our brave veterans that power brokers in Albany kill truly bipartisan legislation with noble causes,” Hawley continued. “Inmates get iPads, parolees get pardons and criminal illegals get lawyers, but the Assembly Majority cries broke when it comes to our valiant veterans – mindboggling.”

This is just sickening. One has to be a prisoner or an illegal to obtain perks from NY state. I have had it with NY city. Please.....time to split the state!!!

Well ok Steve thanks for the update, Now what are You going to do about it? Seems to me that many of your press releases are of you complaining about what some government agency in Albany is doing and how unfair it is to West N.Y. Then you throw your hands in the air and leave us hanging.... Steve, What are You going to do about this? ... P.S. Steve why is the cost of gasoline higher in Batavia then other parts of N.Y.?

Sad that they think college for illegal immigrants (basically makes them a criminal) can get college aid but not the families of NY State vets who have died in the line of duty.

Dave Spaulding - you are 100% correct. Hawley is merely a blowhard that collects our tax money to pay his salary. By his own admission, he can get nothing done on the job. His job title should be changed to "Press Releaser In Chief". It seems this is the only thing he can accomplish. Sadly, some of the folks on here just blindly follow him (read the post above) and do not seem to care that he is an ineffective Legislator.

Interesting. Scott and David are more upset that Hawley put out a press release than being upset over Democrats denying the families of New York State veterans, who died in the line of duty, college aid when they provide college aid for illegals. Don't like Hawley, OK, but focus on what these people in Albany just did.

Yes, Mr Roach. Steve does everything he can. At least he lets people know what's going on. Most NYers have their head in the sand and let downstate walk all over them . I was at the anti-Cuomo demonstration last month. I didn't see Scott or David there.

ok I'll start with you john, what are you talking about? go re read my post, I'm angry about both issues, Hawley's inability and the illegals getting benefits. so there.
Miss Candace, you state you didn't see me at some demonstration last month, you are correct as I was not there. However you were, so would you mind sharing what it was you were demonstrating against and exactly what did you accomplish? I'll bet both of you got as much done as I did with my above post..... take care

David, sorry I look at your post (#2) and see nothing about it being wrong that illegals get anything, including college aid, or any mention it was wrong to deny the families of deceased veterans reduced college cost. Even in #7, you still do not say anything in support of the veterans families, but at least say your angry about illegals getting benefits.

I do see in #2, you complain again about his press releases and asking about gas prices

The military already has extensive education benefits available to survivors of those killed in the line of duty. This is one of many online documents that address those:
https://www.military.com/benefits/survivor-benefits/surviving-spouse-an…
Of course those who need to push the hero worship card will find fault regardless. Hero worship of the military perpetuates the needless, murderous, illegal wars we wage which are created by the conspiratorial ilk President Eisenhower and General Smedley Butler warned us about. Including The mainstream media. Here is a very small sample of that reality:

Hawley, like many political operatives, pushes the hero worship card in order to claim heroism for themselves. A self perpetuating indulgence that Eisenhower and Butler would frown upon in light of the military disasters we've perpetrated over the last 20yrs and more.

Daniel, this is not "hero" worship. It's giving a discount to the children of veterans who died in the line of duty. And it is more than fair and justified since the State is going to give non citizens, (called illegal immigrants) free college.

Think about it. The liberal Democrats voted $27 million of our tax dollars so someone who is here illegally can go to college for free, but refuse to even give a discount (not even free) to children of citizens of the State, who had a parent die in the line of duty while in the military. Even someone like you, who clearly dislikes our military, should see the unfairness in this.

The fact that the politicos are giving my/our money to illegals is certainly ludicrous. As I've stated numerous times, I am in favour of closing the borders and shipping illegals home. I have deep empathy for loved ones of the fallen. This bill is nothing but a political football. Another attempt to utilise the deaths of the true hero's of our military to gain political favour. If you read the article I presented above you'll see that a very significant amount of money available to survivors for the things this bill is supposedly designed to cover, is not utilized. Hence the bill is not needed.
As for cuomo and our other downstate railroaders, I'd have been happy to attend the protest but couldn't be there that day. I plan to be at any future rallies.

Daniel, for what it's worth, I agree with your comments 100 %. I know you're aware of the impending attack when making an anti-warrior statement. The very reason I quit posting my opinions about the USA war machine how terrible it is the USA kills people all over the world, every day. I appreciate your courage to stand up against the bully mind set. You stated that Military Veteran family members already receive these benefits and provided a link, yet the band wagon still wants to attack you..

Here is a link to video of some of the "heroic" players who would be seen as heroic because they "served." :

Ironically the true hero is the publisher of this evidence that our war mongers in high places wanted to bury. FREE JULIAN ASSANGE!!!
