Hawley says Genesee County would 'gladly accept' Amazon headquarters at STAMP site

posted by Billie Owens in steve hawley, news, STAMP, business.

A statement from Assemblyman Steve Hawley (R,C,I-Batavia) on the decision of Amazon to axe their HQ in New York City:

“Talk about making ‘Open for Business’ a punchline – the governor and New York City politicians have failed to close the deal with Amazon but there is hope for Mr. Bezos: Western New York is truly open for business and we would gladly accept Amazon’s Headquarters to be located at our STAMP site.

“I have already been in contact with the Orleans County IDA and Economic Development Center in Genesee County to make this a reality and I’m confident our 57 local colleges and universities educating more than 300,000 students could easily accommodate their labor needs.”

Dave,, the new Amazon headquarters is labeled HQ2 is a major Amazon office complex which will employ 25,000 highly paid employees. It will bring a major economic boon to which every city or area it is sited at. Every major city in North America has been fighting for this for the last year. Most offers include billions in tax abatements and other incentives.

Steve Hawley could find a cure for cancer, and he'd be criticized by some for putting cancer researchers out of work. Let's hope Socialist Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez doesn't come here and ruin the deal for us before negotiations, or inquiries begin.

To add to what Tom said ... Amazon selected Queens for its new location with a package from New York State for billions in grants and tax abatements.

Downstate Democrats objected to the corporate giveaway. There were concerns about gentrification, added infrastructure burden, etc. The now Democratic-controlled State Senate was planning hearings so Amazon withdrew and will now, presumably look for a new location for its second headquarters.

Rich your right. His press release was another "photo op." He's "already been in touch with OCIDA and GCEDC to make this a reality." LOL. He could fall out of bed and put out a press release about having gotten up at 4am. I truly doubt that his contact with the aforementioned entities had or will have any bearing on the work of those entities. If the press release said something like "I've made an appointment with my fellow state representative in whose district the amazon hdqrtrs was planned in order to pick his brain and gain a deeper understanding of the players involved and the needs that he might facilitate. Then he's doing something "in his lane." Rather than jumping up and waving his arms and crying I'm on this. LOLOL

Tom, thanks for info.... I was thinking that was what Steve was talking about.
Coming from Steve I'm not surprised with this press release.... Hysterical ..
With Steve waving a magic wand he wants to turn a few acres of farm land in Genesee county into a non stop 24/7 truck traffic metropolis.
A while back Steve was talking about term limits in congress, this may be the time to
push for limits in the assembly too.

Rich, AOC is the new America. You can complain all you want but she and her kind are here to stay. I seen her on the news talking about how to better spend the tax breaks offered to Amazon like it was actual money..

Here's a vote to consider the STAMP sight for a new Bills stadium. As realistic a wish as Mr. Hawleys

Dave, can you say Venezuela. Sixty years ago they were the richest capitalist Democratic form of government in South America. And look at them now because of the likes of AOC AKA Cow Fart. They are eating Zoo Animals. Do you know a good recipe for Hippos.

Socialism in America: Most people who call themselves socialist don't really understand what socialism is. When people call themselves Democratic Socialists they think they're describing Denmark or Sweden.

But neither Denmark nor Sweden are socialists countries, no matter how many progressives tell you otherwise. They are democratic, free market economies.

They might offer some more general social welfare benefits but that's just policy, not description of the economics of the country.

AOC is a member of the Democratic Socialists of America. This is from the DSA constitution:

"We are socialists because we share a vision of a humane social order based on popular control of resources and production, economic planning, equitable distribution"

https://www.dsausa.org/about-us/constitution/

That's straight up Marxism. There's nothing democratic about redistributing "the means of production" or equitable distribution of resources or central economic planning. That is the antithesis of free market economics.

Either AOC and other self-describe "democratic socialists" are misinformed and deluded about the DSA and socialism in general or they are a clear danger to the entire American experiment in self-governance, individual independence, economic liberty, self-reliance, individual autonomy, and self-determination.

The United States was founded on the Enlightenment values of individual self-worth over the collectivist ideologies of monarchy and feudalism and a rational basis for decision making (which stands in stark contrast to the collectivist ideology of decisions based on group identity).

There is hardly a whits worth of difference between socialism and nationalism, both of which elevate collective worth over individual liberty.

There's nothing Democratic about buying laws and law makers to counteract "reason." There's nothing Democratic about hiding wealth overseas to avoid reasonable taxes, until you can buy the right politician into office to knock the tax rate in half. AOC is a result of the ecopolitical pendulum swing that is stuck to one side. She's not a cure but a symptom. If the oligarchs don't wise up and make things more equitable, then such "progressives" will continue to flourish. I voted yea for your poll on the Green New Deal not because everything in it is needed, but because the status quo needs shaking up. And the electric car idea is one I've championed before. It solves a very large percentage of the power storage problems with renewables.
All of you people who don't think things need to change would be singing a different tune if we weren't borrowing our children's future to lavish ourselves with trinkets and otherwise polishing our vanity, while destroying our planet. Take off the blinders. That extra trillion added to our national debt this year sure is making everybody feel warm and fuzzy but you better hang on cause the roller coaster thats ahead is gonna be one heck of a ride.

Here are a couple of counterpoints regarding Venezuela:
Watch "George Galloway on Venezuela (subtitulos en Español)" on YouTube
https://youtu.be/Jsci1IJpG5M
Watch "Empire Files: Abby Martin in Venezuela - Supermarkets to Black Markets" on YouTube
https://youtu.be/YUYWrPiUeWY
Both of these people are trustworthy, believe me.
The lineup of warpigs trump has installed is a rogues gallery of genocidal henchmen. Convicted war criminal eliot abrahams and untried war criminal jon bolton are the spearheads of past murderous interventions who have obviously been brought on board to perpetrate new war crimes. Then there's gina haspel the admitted torcherer and destroyer of evidence, depriving Americans of a full accounting. I'm certain each of these lowest forms of life has brought on board a legion of like minded toilet dwellers. The spurious stories put forth by our mainstream media is more propaganda. They've lied to us so many times before it boggles the mind that the same insane blueprint can still gain support.
