Le Roy man seriously injured Saturday on Lake Street identified

posted by Billie Owens in news, Le Roy, notify, crime, accidents.

Shawn W. Cross, 48, of Le Roy, is identified as the man who suffered a severe head injury following an incident late Saturday afternoon in which he exited a moving vehicle on Lake Street in the Village of Le Roy. He remains in critical condition at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester.

The driver, Lorie A. Litolff, 57, of Craigie Street, Le Roy, is accused of leaving the scene of a serious injury accident, a felony.

She is also charged with DWI, failure to report an accident with injuries, driving without an ignition interlock device, and failure to submit to a breath test.

Litolff was jailed on $10,000 bail.

Several witnesses were interviewed and Le Roy police believe Litolff and the victim were engaged in a verbal argument prior to the man exiting the vehicle.

When he exited, according to witnesses, he lost his balance and fell, striking the pavement, which is the cause of at least some of Cross's injuries.

When a person willingly exits a moving vehicle they do Not become a victim.

I think the charges stem from her failure to stop, and call for an ambulance.

David, you weren't there. You don't know the "operation of the mind" of the person injured, to paraphrase Judge Judy.

Are you a mental health or medical professional? God I hope not because one needs the ability to feel empathy to be in those fields.

People with self-inflicted injuries -- by whatever means -- are typically referred to as victims. Someone who survives attempted suicide, for example. They are injured people plain and simple. He didn't drink and drive. He didn't hurt someone else.

Whatever happened in this incident is not fully disclosed by authorities, if known, and perhaps never will be.

Most people know someone who struggles in this life.

You sit on a high, high horse, mister, and I pray you never lose your footing and fall, or love anyone who does.

May all your choices in life be correct and all your actions sound and the dividends from the unbroken chain of successes be manifest.

My prayers are with Mr. Cross and those who care about him.

Life more often than not, is fragile.

When YOU have all the strengths and tools to deal with it masterfully, the admirable thing to do is have a little MAGNANIMITY -- my favorite word in the English language -- not snipe at the actions of someone in a hospital, not past the point of succumbing to his injuries, regardless of how they came about.
