By Billie Owens

A two-car accident is reported by the parking lot at Batavia Downs, 8315 Park Road. Town of Batavia Fire Department and Mercy medics are responding. Law enforcement is on scene. An 8-month-old infant is said to have a head injury and a 7-year-old has a hand injury.

That parking lot is extremely dangerous. I have almost been clip a couple of times. Between the poorly marked lines and people walking every which way to get to their cars, it is amazing that there is not more accidents.

I agree. That is a dangerous lot, with not only folks going in different directions, but blind intersections when it fills up. I also have had some close calls travelling very slow. I also am surprised that more have not been hit or injured crossing the road. I see so many coming right out those door, that are blind to traffic, and just almost running into the road. It has and will happen until something changes. But I do have to comment on why the baby and very young person were out so late?? Maybe I am showing my age, but I would never have been out that hour when I was 7.(much less 8 months")
Just sayin.

I'm still trying to figure out how two young children got hurt in a parking lot accident. It's not likely high speeds were a factor, the infant should have been secured in a seat and most likely the 7 year old also.

A hand injury while restrained I can understand, but a head injury in a parking lot accident?

"A hand injury while restrained I can understand, but a head injury in a parking lot accident?"

Perhaps an object from the rear window hit the infant in the head on impact.

The story said "by" the parking lot,so it could be on Park Rd. BD does not seem to care-people zoom down Park Rd,one side stops, you start out, then the other side car keeps coming at you....ever since they added the"valet" and the south entrance, many more people park at Kmart and cross the road, which is an accident waiting to happen. They have added the crosswalks in front, but both drivers and patrons don't pay attention. I don't understand why Park Rd. can't be closed to through traffic from Kmart to Park Rd.-we do have Veterans Memorial Drive to get around, other gaming venues don't have a road going by main entrance. Parking lot is lousy, from people driving around like maniacs,to the poor lighting, then the numerous potholes that will show up again. Seems like you take your life in your hands if you want to visit Batavia Downs.....then they have TWO different pedestrian crossing signs IN THE ROAD-one on north side of building says "Stop for pedestrians in crosswalk",which many people think is a regular stop sign, then the ones by main door say "yield to pedestrians in crosswalk"....

The north pedestrian crossing is used mainly by employees. They are very cautious when crossing. But the south crossing is a different story. With the old entrance you could kind of see when someone emerged from the building. The new facade gives no warning. They step out from the dark pillars and are almost immediately in the street. Night time is especially bad. The parking lot is a mess. It's offset from the entrance since they built KMart so prime parking is limited and leads to the zig zag of pedestrians as they try to find their cars. Some of the driving lanes are very narrow with limited sight lines. And could someone please put sidewalks through the Park - Veterans - Oak corridor? There's everything from scooters, wheelchairs, children, and strollers, to foreign tourists and people walking dogs through there.

The accident was in the parking lot proper. I tried to enter the lot last night about 10 PM and was directed by Security to the North end because of emergency vehicles. It appeared that the incident took place right at the opening.

A crosswalk costs $15 for paint and $200 for a lazy bum. Stoplights are on Batavia's dime. Demand it, no stop and go BS either. Actually, the State should pay for it . Anything short of an overhead pedestrian bridge is ghetto but Batavia has a lot of Mafia influence and they are greedy, cheap, fat people who kill other nice people because they love money. Or a railroad crossing minus the railroad, if you inconvenience driver's enough they will avoid the route. It's like, if you are drunk and someone tells you where they are stopping everyone you can just go a different way. Or those roll out tire spike things, they do a good job of slowing people down too. That's just my personal opinion and not the opinion of the Batavian unless that happens to be their opinion too, which it is probably not.

",other gaming venues don't have a road going by main entrance."

Seneca Niagra does.

4th & 6th Streets go right through near the east & west entrances, Falls St. comes in from John Daly Blvd. and intersect with 6th St., and Duggan Dr. runs along the south side of the casino.

It's a crap shoot(no pun intended) to get from an outdoor parking lot to the casino entrances. We've had a few close calls with drivers not paying attention to the crosswalks and warning signs.

I remembered that after awhile Raymond, but I was only there once, and parked in lot near main entrance I believe. I was referring to Hamburg and Fingerlakes-not sure about other venues. Don't worry, nothing will happen or get done until someone is KILLED-that's usually what it takes before the state decides to do anything, like the 198 in Buffalo and the stop signs at Rt.262 and Byron Rd........

When they invested millions of dollars on the new entrance they should have put some thought into pedestrian safety. There is always going to be blind spots. I have almost clipped people going 5mph in front of walmart. Iv seen cars fly by the casino way faster than that.
