Law enforcement is responding to 112 State St., where reportedly five individuals with baseball bats and pipes entered the residence.

At least one person is on the floor requiring medical assistance.

The people with baseball bats and pipes may still be in the area.

Mercy EMS is being dispatched, but the scene is not yet secure.

Now, they're reporting the victims are at 5 Lewis Place.

A third victim is now reported on Hutchins Place.

I live on this street unfortunetly, as far as i could tell the 5 suspects were not their when police arrived.. one person was taken away in ambulance, the other in a police car.

In Batavia..... Sad I think they should Bulldoze the whole apt. complex on Lewis Place, and State St., like their doing in Buffalo. Clean up our city and run these Gangbanging, Drug dealing, criminals out of OUR town! Whats even more sad, all the kids toys, and bikes in the area. Hello you loosers, there are children all over those streets.. What is this world coming to. Who wants to take back our city with me? (Just kidding Howard). But Yah Know......

I agree with Karen. And as troubling as it is to say, I don't think our Police are trained for urban combat and are unprepared. Something must be done!
And when the Gov't is paying for their shelter, food, children, medical etc., what incentive do they have to clean up their yards? They probably want that done for them too! If something isn't done soon, there will be bigger problems and more serious crimes. It's just a matter of time. Look out!
Karen, your last comment isn't to far fetched!

LOL Gaber, all I'll need is some rope and strong-arms with pickup trucks, and a couple of D-10's. How about the homeowners in that area. Their property value has to have plumited. I feel sorry for them, and the innocent children in the area.

First, I don't have any idea what happened, so I'm just tossin' out another opinion. Could've been a group of scumbags who think another group of scumbags aren't being proper scumbags. I'm not condoning this kind of thing, but at least they didn't act the way scumbags do in Buffalo or a lot of big cities and just spray bullets around, not caring who gets hit. Just trying to look on the bright side.

Howard, maybe urban combat was to harsh a term, but my rant was more about nipping it now rather then later, and how I don't think we're prepared for it.
Everyone can put whatever spin they want on it .... relatives visiting relatives or whatever. If they see how easy it is to get away with things here in Batavia, these "relatives" will soon be living here too. I moved here from Buffalo 22 years ago to get away from it but this is how it starts.

Greg is absolutely correct. This is how it starts.
The Police need to take what happened last night with the utmost seriousness. I have no doubt that the law enforcement in Batavia and Genesee county are doing their job. It would be very easy for a gang problem to develop though with the attitude that "it can't happen here."
Part of the solution lies in the hands of landlords accepting new tenets with dubious back rounds. Another part of the solution is in the hands of the average citizen. If you hear or see something report it. The police need to be tough on gangs let the "relatives" know that they are not welcome in our town.

I've come to the conclusion this is the #1 issue. We need to get the word out to landlords -- start doing background checks, don't rent to people with criminal records, check references, make sure they either have jobs, or if they're on government assistance, have no background of case history of being involved with problems -- while I'm very sympathetic to the landlord as as the small business owner, you also owe it to your community and yourself to not take as tenants people you wouldn't want living next door to your family.

I don't think they're any worries there -- two neighbors have cross words in this town and somebody calls the cops. Billie and I often wonder at some of the really rather seemingly trivial things that get reported. But I never complain about it because I believe it's better for the community to be trigger happy in reporting stuff to the PD than not reporting enough.

As Lawrence Friedman pointed out, Scott Doll was caught because an observant citizen called in a suspicious condition. What might have seemed like a trivial matter at the time led to the conviction of a murderer.
