Christopher Charvella says he's running for 8th district of County Legislature

posted by Howard B. Owens in politics, election, genesee county legislature.

We just received this as a press release:

Dear Neighbor;

My name is Christopher Charvella and I would like to take this  opportunity to announce my candidacy for Genesee County Legislature in the  8th District. I grew up in Genesee County and after serving our country for  six years in the United States Air Force I decided to bring my wife back to  Batavia so we could begin our life together in the place I love so much. We  recently had our first child, a girl, and it is my goal to make Genesee
County a place where she can grow and flourish.

Sadly, our area is in decline. We are facing a multitude of problems: empty  storefronts on Main Street, an unemployment rate at nearly 9% and climbing,  and a local government that seems incapable of coming up with real solutions.  We have watched businesses close their doors or leave town. We have seen  County bids and purchases go to companies that aren’t even based in New  York State and our stagnant Legislature has been a part of the problem  instead of being a part of the solution. It is time for us to change the way  we do business at a local level.

I pledge to bring balance, oversight and transparency to our local  government. When elected I will immediately offer legislation that will open  the County bid process to all qualified local contractors and distributors,  set up a County website that tracks exactly where your tax dollars go and  make County Legislature and Committee meetings accessible to working people.  Together we can bring an end to the ‘rubber stamp’ legislative  environment that has plagued us for so long.

I’m looking forward to meeting you in person as I walk the District over  the next few months. Feel free to stop me on the street and let me know how I  can make Genesee County a better place for you and your family. I am  committed to working hard for the 8th District and all of Genesee County and  I am looking forward to earning your vote and working for you over the next  two years.

Sincerely,

Christopher M. Charvella

What areas of the city is the 8th district? I think I read Wards 2 and 3 but I don't know what areas those are either.

Beth, Your right. The 7th district takes in the 4th and 5th wards and the 9th district takes in the 1st and 6th wards

Okay - so here's a map of the wards: http://www.batavianewyork.com/new_forms/2008ColorCityWardMap%20.pdf My question now is, I live on Oak Street which appears to be the boundary between Wards 3 and 4. Is the East side of the street in Ward 3 and the west side in Ward 4?

I think that its a quadratic equation and you need to F.O.I.L the four wards to find out the answer.

Thanks Russ. The problem is the boundary between 8 and 9 goes right down 98 which is where I live. I have to think that the east side of 98 is district 8 and the west side is district 9.

This is excellent and exciting news. Batavia needs someone in office who truly cares about his fellow citizens and and will work very hard to accomplish their common goals. Batavia has the potential and resources to be a much more prosperous city, but needs a fresh perspective and innovative ideas.

I'm thinking the same thing Adrienne. Someone on the county legislature that would actually represent the City would be a good thing. I look forward to learning more about Mr. Charvella.

Adrienne, I can't express how much I appreciate your message of support. Beth, I'm looking forward to meeting and learning more about you as well. If you were still wondering, the 8th district covers your side of Oak St. I'll be walking the district for the next six months getting to know everyone and listening to what you have to say about how we can make Batavia and all of Genesee County a better place to raise our families. If you have any specific questions please email me at [email protected] Sincerely, Chris Charvella

Chris, For too long all three legislators from the city represented the County to the City, not the City to the County. All three refused to help the city with the ambulance service, the Ice Rink, Dwyer Stadium/Muckdogs and Youth Football. They didn’t even try. It’s time for new people to take over. Good luck

Unfortunately, a well-written letter detailing all of the obvious problems in the area that everyone wants to see fixed isn't enough to win me over. Words are one thing. Action is another, but I digress. I remember words when I read them. Especially names. This article wasn't the first time I saw the name Christopher Charvella. It took a little thinking to remember where. http://thebatavian.com/4907/lllegal-aliens#comment-7221 Fortunately, the above link is a topic that has little to do with the position he's running for. However, there's a reason behind this comment. Opinions will differ. I imagine old memories will resurface once people start reading this comment after I post it. I'm not looking to start a flame war, or kindle an old one. That being said, message me privately if you must. Just keep this article on topic. For the most part, elected politicians get their votes from voters who share the same or similar political views. These views range from opinions on current events, or how to "change the way we do business at a local level". Obviously, there are multiple ways to attempt the above and everyone is either going to agree or disagree. The reason I posted the above link is so everyone has the opportunity to get a feel for Mr. Charvella's views and opinions.
